I was a huge mountain dew drinker. The other day I had an Arnold Palmer half n half free. Totally hit the spot. Def try one of them

Thanks I too would have had a mountain dew IV drip if possible. Loved it. I will try this Arnold Palmer drink.

I have found that it's harder for me to stick to a diet now that I can eat what I want! I think it was easier when I was just on the liquid diet because it's my choices were limited! Crazy huh!:)

Carbonation scares me. My brother had an open bypass almost 10 years ago. He followed no recommendations and taught himself to drink soda as the first slide down the hill. He weighs over 700 lbs now. After soda, it was fatty foods, then sugar, then increasing portion sizes. I just think getting into any of the stuff we aren't supposed to have leads us down a slippery slope.

OMG!!!! I'm in shock. Your brother did the gastric bypass 10 years ago,and is now 700lbs how much did he weight before over 1000lbs? Why did he go into bad habits. You know what after reading this. I'm not even taking a sip of soda here & there. Gaining weight is my biggest fear, but reading this scare me so much seriously. I'm glad I read this. I'm sticking to my snapple tea decafe cafe, crystal light and Water.

He weighed a little over 500 lbs before the surgery. He got down to almost 300 before he started gaining again. He eats more for a snack than i did in a day before the surgery. He can't fit through doorways easily, and takes up 3/4 of an average couch. He's got unchecked sleep apnea and diabetes because he won't go to the doctor. I know I'll succeed because I will never make the same choices he did.

I feel like i could kill for a soda, im dying to get one and just chug it bit i know i cant. that was one of my weaknesses before surgery and im going crazy! How do i get past this?

Can you drink diet soda? How far out are you. I like Coke/Sprite Zero. Regular soda doesnt even taste right to me now sometimes. If I do have the craving I can't kill, I will drink 2-3 sips and I'm finished.

Why did he get the surgery done in the 1st place? Looks like he don't want to change. I feel sorry for him.

No soda, or any carbonated beverages at all, ever. The gas stretches your pouch.

Same with using straws and chewing gum - you swallow air in both cases, which expands your pouch.

No gum will be the hardest for me, but it's worth it :)

It's really up to you if you don't want to have pop or not. I have googled carbonation with gastric bypass and it says that it can't stretch it out. My Dr also said it can not. I'm just saying I like to have diet pop once in awhile if I'm out with friends or at social gatherings bc I don't like feeling limited from Everything!! I hate the feeling of dieting like anyone else

I think bottom line its calories in equals weight gain. I notice at about eight months out the carbonation doesn't bother me much, but I still notice it..I would imagine if you were to drink two or three drinks like we probably used to pre surgery then yes, it might well affect your pouch. One or two sips? Probably not. But...I met a lady prior to my surgery that had gastric bypass about 10 years ago, and she was 400 lbs if she was an ounce. She told me, (when I told her that I wasn't sure I could give pop up) you can do that! (I.e. drink pop) no you can't. Not unless you want to go back to where you were weight wise. Pop is a small price to pay for skinny jeans and turning guys heads. I hated being fat. I hated being prejudiced against. I hated looking in the mirror. I hated clothes shopping. I hated my hubby looking at other women all the time.

I don't love pop that much to lose all these other things I have retrieved back in my life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
