It's simple... We've been given rules to follow if you stay within the guidelines you should be fine... Not everything will agree with everyone but life is about trial and error we as humans have to eat you can't be scared

Yay! That's exactly how my day went too! Down 22lbs and got the staples out!!! I'm eating mashed potatoes with cheese mmmm feels great right? Congrats

ask your doc what he thinks about you eating mash potatoes and cheese not sure they will be very happy with that choice, unless its sweet potatoe but either way there is dumping something that should not happen

I don't see how you folks eat anything without being terrified of dumping. I'm afraid to eat anything... Anything! (Can't for another week anyways) like cheese and mashed potatoes... I'm thinking "OMG I'll dump and diiiiie!!!!!!!"

had my pre op with Roller today, and yes he does drill that dumping is bad. and so is mash potatoes.

I don't find it simple at all. For example, I'm not to ingest anything with 5g or more (per serving) of fat or sugar. Yet I'm allowed to mix my shakes with 1% milk.... Which has 11g of sugar per serving.

The rule for me is no more than 15g of sugar per meal.

When u think about the fact that it the beginning u will only be able to eat 1-2 ozs per meal even if you have a food item that has 9 grams of sugar per serving you will not be ingesting the entire 9 grams because you're not eating the serving size as listed on the label. I'm almost 3 weeks post op & will have been on puréed food for 2 weeks tomorrow. I just try to introduce 1 new food per day so if I do happen to dump I can pinpoint exactly what made it happen. You have to eat so just stick to things low on fat, sugar & carbs & u will be fine.

Anyone have tips on passing gas? Lol. I'm now on day 2 and haven't been able to pass gas. It wants to come out I just can't seem to get it out. I've been walking and drinking a fair amount. I've also attempted to lay on my side' date=' nothing.[/quote']

I didn't start to pass gas until about day 4.

I am almost 9 days post op. I ate some egg drop Soup tonight. So far so good but I'm just nervous! At least it has Protein. haha :) Did you guys cheat at all in the first 2 weeks after surgery. I have not had any complications at all and have felt minimal pain the whole time. Thoughts?

I think Im going to dry mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes....my doc said mashed potatoes are ok in small amounts. Everyone is different....what someone may dump with, someone else wont.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
