Vertical Sleeve Revision To Rny

Recommended Posts

Hello. This is my first post over here on RNY Talk- I've been a member on Vertical Sleeve Talk for a few months. I had the sleeve on August 6th and it is has been quite a terrible journey! My surgeon could not figure out why I was vomiting daily and having trouble staying hydrated. I have a new surgeon now and he believes that he will need to do a revision surgery to the RNY. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this type of revision an what it was like? I hear your pouch is super small compared to normal RNY patients... Just looking for any pointers....

Mine is only one ounce... Pretty darn small... Haven't heard of that type of revision

I hope mine isn't much smaller! Haha! Although anything is better than what I'm going through now! The revision is happening because my sleeve is messed up :/ I thought maybe there would be someone out there with a similar experience...

I am seeking info on internet because my sleeve has a leak and the doctor said he will remove my stomach. I wonder if I can have RNY instead

well i have had a complicated journey. i had the band in 2008. in 2010 the band slipped and i had the sleeve done. after the sleeve it was pure agony. i vomited basically everyday and had awful reflux. in september i had RNY done...it solved those problems, ive had a few issues since but not as bad as those. i needed to have my gall bladder out. that was done and i cont to have intermittent abdominal pain. the pain is severe but doesnt last long. my surgeon thinks i may have an internal hernia. he wants me to have a diagnostic laparoscopy to rule this out. i am so much better since the RNY

Hi,

I am just looking into revision do to metabolic reasons and I am not sure I should. I had the sleeve 11/30/I2. I lost 60 lbs.

SW 289

CW 229

I have been stuck this weight for almost a year I go back and forth from 232 down to 228. It is soooooooo frustrating. I have been reading up and it seems I may have a issue????

I eat 1200-1300 calories daily sometimes less and it is mostly low carb less than 50 carbs a day. Infact recently I have been doing 20 carbs a day,

I don't work out like I should be I do work out at least 2 times a w aim for 3-4 though. This last week I didn't at all becasue I was sick but I am back in the game now.

Anyway, I am at my wits end the hospital where I had my surgery thinks I just need to keep trying the 1200 calorie plan. Obviously my body like where it is at!

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So just curious if anyone has tried it for weight loss issues.

I am also considering revision surgery from the sleeve to the RNY. I originally weighed 308(sleeve performed in October of 2011) and was able to get down to 213. I was working out with a very tough trainer 3 to 4 times per week. Then about 3 years ago I began experiencing sciatic pain, that progressed into muscle, nerve, and severe joint pain.

One month ago (after much testing/and a family history), I was diagnosed with SLE (systemic lupus). It doesn't seem to matter how low my carbs or calories are, or how high my Protein is, I have gained almost 30 lbs.

For health and honestly vanity reasons, I really need to be under 200 lbs.

I would welcome any advice that any of you can give. I am currently trying to get in touch with my original surgeon as well as the top rated physicians in my area.

Not sure if insurance will cover this. My particular plan is listed as covering the cost, but who knows.

Thanks so much for any suggestions you may have.

Jennifer

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
