Diet/exercise/lost 17Lbs/nut/dr Appts And My A1C Went Up - Wth

Recommended Posts

I’m in my six month penance - I have FIFTY ONE days of waiting left.

I’m doing everything “they” tell me and my A1C went UP.

So, what does this say to me.

First - the regular eating habits of the alleged healthy among us does not work for my DNA - I asked my NUT if I could stay more Protein heavy on my pre-diet and she said that wasn’t balanced (My A1C before all of this was 6.5)

Second - RNY is the right choice. I got my results this morning and I was very blue. But after some thought about it all - I decided the arrow I was looking for is finally pointing to Gastric Bypass. I suppose many of us go through some regrets about even having to get to this point - and somehow I thought this surgery was the evilest of the evils. BUT - a) statistically T2Diabetics do extremely well post RNY - many leaving the hospital with no meds and B) the success of reversing the diabetes is the best with RNY.

I had my boohoo - now onward and upward.

If after 4 months of diet and exercise - I had lost more and maybe had a “better” A1C - I might not be confident about surgery. Now I am. I guess I got my answer.

Thanks for listening friends.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
