10 Wk Post Op Question

Recommended Posts

I have my ekg and work up to be done tomorrow and my endoscopy on Monday. If everything comes out okay then my set date is the 5th of December.

With that being said I have a planned vacation(cruise) from February 16-23. At 10 wks post op my doctor mentioned I should probably be at soft solids. I'm pretty sure I should be able to find something to eat on the cruise. Any suggestions on what I should be looking to eat at 10 wks?

Thanks

John

That is tough. I think you are going to find it hard to find something on the cruise. I was sick to my stomach and could not keep anything down at 10 weeks. Make sure you have your doc give you plenty of anti nausea meds.

Sea bands are a must for me. I wear them every day. At four weeks post op. They are sold at Walgreens. I'm on soft puréed stage and I'm good with apple sauce, chicken salad, tuna, Beans, split pea Soup, clam chowder and mashed sweet potatoes.

Ok so I'm 10 weeks post op right now and I can tell you with confidence given that I've been on more than 10 cruises that you will have no problem with food being available. It's restricting yourself that's key at this stage. I can tell you that everything I currently eat can easily be found on board, as long as your not cruising Costa, and I so hope your not. I would however do a few things prior to departing. Firstly, I would get some of the Unjury chicken soup/broth, it's an easy 20 g's of Protein. Additionally you may want to find a premade/prepackaged shake that works with your body. Take it ow, remember to drink lots of Fluid. Also 10 weeks is still considered "post-op" and you will still be recovering...therefore I suggest you stop and sanitize as much as you can. The last thing you need is to get some crazy flu bug that will cause you a whole lot of unwelcome issues.

Take it easy and remember to try new things only one at a time..

Good luck and I hope this helps, hope your surgery and recovery are easy and your cruise is enjoyable.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
