Highmark Bcbs?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm new around here, nice to "meet" you!

I am just starting my journey. I've been doing a lot of research past few weeks and about to make my first appointment and take it form there! From what I've read, my insurance, Highmark BCBS (NY) does require the 6 month diet. Has anyone had this expierence with this insurance company? good/bad?

As of right now my BMI is about 55 and I know at my weight i'll more than likely need to lose at least 10% before any surgery.

Thanks for any info you can supply!

I have Horizon BC/BS NJ and I did not have to do any pre surgery diet, at least my surgeon did not require that I diet. My BMI was 36 but my cholestrol was 214 and BP was 140/83 so my BP was on the rise too. My sailed thru my approval process - good luck in your journey !!

Hello I have bcbs of oklahoma and I know 10 people who have it as well, andbcbs ok paid for it well guess what im the one they wont pay for so im saving for my surgery my husband work has a plan that obesity is an exclusion! Ive tried everything to get them to pay it finally the wls place was rude as hell so im.giving.up and.going.to pay.cash. It just kills me how some have had 3-4 wls and their insurance pays so I guess all get of my bitter soapbox lol, good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
