Hey guys I had my surgery Monday and I just wanted to check in...i'm doing a lot better.Monday was literally hell on earth but each day so far has been getting a lil easier. Today my mom and I went and did two laps around the mall and went to Walmart to pick up some Soup. I was doing fine till the end of Walmart when I was ready for a much needed nap. I feel like most of the gas is getting out but i'm still having upper back pain.I have a heating pad for that though. Just sipping walking and trying to relax. Luckily I was approved for leave from work till the 30 so that should give me plenty of time to recoup. Although i'm uncomfortable, as i'm feeling better day by day i'm super psyched to be on the losers bench...

Well every one recovers on their own pace what's most important is that you're feeling better now! Each day gets a bit easier! We're in this together!!

Congrats to u both on your surgery. Yes, each day gets a little better than the last. I know I didn't see real improvement until at least 2 weeks out, but not real good until 5-6. Keep walking, resting, and sipping and u will do great! Welcome to the losers side!

Meggiepoo, I've been feeling the same exact way... I didn't think about the heating pad, but I will get one when I go back out. I still have my JD drain in which is driving me crazy! Can't wait until its removed on Monday.

oh I didn't have to have any type of drain? Is that normal? I'm sleeping on the recliner tonight my back is just not appreciating laying down flat...and to think I was so uncomfortable in the recliner in the hospital but that's what i'm going to at home...ugh!

I'm sleep comfortable when sleeping on my side with pillows.

The drain is normal. Some doctors use it and others don't. Its just another way to make sure I don't have any leakage.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
