Is this GURGLING normal?

Recommended Posts

I knew I'd have gas pains...but my band went in Tuesday, and by yesterday Noon, the pains have turned into Tummy GROWLS! It's upsetting me, b/c I'm not sure if the tummy is hungry, or it's only the gas, or if I'm making the stomach work too hard with all the liquids? I mean, literally these sounds woke me up in the middle of the night! I'm trying to pass gas when I can, sitting on the potty for a while...not much coming out.

Let's just say I'd be embarrassed if I were out in public!

Today is day 3 post op. Doctors instructions read "Day 3 - 4 start adding cream Soups, etc.". I WAS going to wait until tomorrow - but now I'm not sure.:)

My tummy growled SO bad those few few days!! Ugh it was awful but my kids thought it was funny. It quieted down when I started on Soup BUT then when I got my first fill! Wowser.. it started gurgling loud. I was paranoid about it but kept asking my hubby and he said at home he could hear it but in a restaurant he couldn't, too much background noise. The gurgles are the sounds of food going down through the stoma and air has to come back up. It's a small price to pay though I think :)

Wait it out though.. those loud growls will get better.

Seems that the growls have subsided a bit today...I was thinking b/c I had some Soup today? Really not too many liquids, b/c I fell asleep. I think when I start getting them down again today; the growls might come back.

My gurgling was VERY loud the week after surgery. It got a lot quieter after I started the mushies.

I got a fill on Wednesday and the gurgling is back. It's kind of like an old friend now. I'm glad to hear it again because that was when I lost more than the normal 1-2 pounds per week.

I choose to believe that gurgling is the sound that fat makes as it leaves the body. :) :biggrin1:

BRING ON THE GURGLES - I HOPE EVERYBODY HEARS IT!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Experienced the exact same stomach "gurgling" issues as yourself for a couple weeks after surgery, but they will go away for the most part as time passes. Congrats on the your band, hope all goes smoothly!

Ditto what BigBZ said! Mine was hilarious because people could definately hear it, not just me. But, it calms down. Although, sometimes my belly chimes in and it's still kindof loud!

Might as well get used to it Sherilynn! I've been banded since August, and mine makes CRAZY noises all the time. I'm really restricted now, and suddenly my THROAT is gurgling and growling! I'm an assistant principal at a high school, and my kids think it's hysterical! It's especially bad in the mornings! Just one of those quirky things!

I went golfing today and got paired up with a couple. Right before I stepped up to the teebox I took a big swig of gatorage.....well I got up there addressed the ball and must have had my mouth slightly open and this crazy loud gurgle wheeze came up my throat and out of my mouth while I swung! I had a big smile on my face and turned around to see the couple starting to snicker, so I explained what was up. Guess it was nice to have something distract me from thinking about my golf swing.....KILLED the ball down the middle!!!:)

It calms down after a while. My husband used to think it was hysterical. When we were out and public I would just make a face and him..like it was him that was making that noise.

I occasionally have the throat gurgle thing and hope that my clients don't hear it on the phone. Oh well...I may gurgle and growl...but I'm getting cuter by the minute...lol

When mine starts talking to me, it usually means I need to drink something. Once I take a few sips, it settles down and goes right back to sleep, guarding my stomach from evil high-calorie intruders.

Mine gurgles/growls OCC too. It was often just after surgery, and I've noticied that it increases a lot the first few weeks after a fill, then settles down again.

Well I'm glad I am not the only one!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
