Walking is a terrific way to get active and you probably started in the hospital within hours after your surgery. By all means take a walk in the neighborhood! Start slow and take it easy. At a week out you're likely still pretty tender. Remember it's a journey, not a marathon. Set a goal of walking at least four times a week and slowly increase the distance/time with each walk as you get stronger. Remember too that you can walk in the neighborhood, a local park, on a treadmill, the mall - almost anywhere and anytime. There is absolutely not the slightest doubt in my mind that walking increased my weight loss, reduced the time to lose it and once it becomes a habit, it's a lot of fun. I look forward to it!!

I was up walking laps within an hour or so in my room after surgery. The nurses actually went and got me a ribbon bc I was doing laps around the floor. Its was sweet. But my Dr told me to start walking 2-3 miles/day at least 3days a week as soon as I got home.

I have always loved walking/jogging (when I was thinner). When In the hospital I was doing laps around the entire floor of the hospital. My dr. cleared me to do any exercise I wanted after 3 wks. It took me about 4 months to start jogging again. I first started out slow and increased my distance and intensity a little at a time. I always say find a exercise you like and it will not feel like you have to get up an exercise you will want to do it because you enjoy it. Plus you will feel more energized, I know I do !!! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
