Decision Time... Surgery Tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

Well, my surgery is tomorrow! I am so excited and am getting really nervous now too. I had been planning on getting VSG for the past 6 months. At my preop appt. 2 weeks ago, my surgeon highly suggested that I consider RNY based on some medical issues and some social issues as well. My head has been spinning for the past 2 weeks trying to figure out exactly which surgery to get. And being on a liquid diet during this time hasn't helped one bit... lol ;) I have researched and read as much as I could. I have talked to everyone I know that has had bariatric surgeries. I wish I had a crystal ball to tell me what is best.

Has anyone else been in this position? Any words of wisdom?

I know that through research you can't "cheat " with the rny like you can with the sleeve and lap band

Im this moment 15 minutes away from my hospital to do the op. im having the gastric bypass because for me, the years of success with this WLS makes me feel secure of losing and the fact that is not just restriction too

Im doing a revision from a lapband .. Which didnt help lose, it just made me unable to eat ( and sometimes drink and breath) while leaving me hungry. But amazing all the bad food would easily slip in. I do Not want that option again

I feel that i will have a great tool for eating healthy after this op.

Why did u want the sleeve and not the Rny? How strongly does your doctor recommend it? Do u trust his experince/ knowledge / him?

It must be very hard to have to choose suddenly after having your mind set on the sleeve . Good luck and i hope that u choose the best option for you and your health

I had the same dilemma I was set on getting a sleeve. After talking to my dr he also suggested the Rny based on my eating habits and my age. In the end I just paired my knowledge with my drs and made the most educated decision I could I am having my Rny next Tuesday the 11th

I was having this discussion with Dr and then dietician (She played devils advocate). This after my own studies on them. I am sticking with RNY. It's best for me, partly for the strictness withknowing myself, it's best.

You can only make that decision for you. I also looked at the # of patients having RNY done after other surgeries didn't 'do it' for them..

I wanted the Lap Band but the two dr I talked to said the rny is a beter opition they both would rather do rny and they saay rny has vetter results. Plus my BMI was not n rage for the lap band. I kno this may sound vain of me but I only wanted the lap band bcuz I thought they still gave you the big cut, I sidnt want to b left with that huge scar.

Last year I wanted the band but then realized it was not going to be enough for me. I need the dumping and the fear of stretching the pouch out. Also not a fan of the whole port thing with the band. But this is me and everyone is different. I have a book called Skinny Jeans. I says that you can have great success with the band if you are a person that will follow the rules with no questions. Good luck in your decision.

Well, I came home from the hospital last night. I decided to trust what my Doctor suggested and went through with the RNY. They say I am doing well. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything ( which they told me I would) and I am trying to get in my liquids. I really am struggling with this today. I had IV fluids in the hospital that helped me a lot. I am trying my best at getting in some Jello right now. Thanks for all of the supportive words!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
