So I'm 2 wks out and just realized I was eating some things I'm not supposwd to. Some with way too much sugar and bison meat ground, the dietician said that she could t believe I didn't dump, lol. This is scary cause I was hoping I would if I ate something I'm not supposed to! But I have enough will power to refrain from those things especially if it's going to stall my progress.

Anyone else experience this?

I think everyone has their own form of dumping and how your own body reacts to such things. When I don't chew-chew-chew and swallow big pieces I immediately know that within about 2 minutes I will start to get the "foamies" it is a constant flow of real foamy syliva coming up from my stomach - I feel real sick all over and it lasts from 15 minutes to 12 hours. Its not fun !!!! I think this is my body's form of dumping. But that was only related to chewing. I have had some M&M's, butter, pepperoni, and nothing has happened.... of course it was like 4 m&m's, a teaspoon full of butter and a piece of pepperoni - all the bad stuff was just a taste, I am sure if I ate a bag of M&M or a stick of butter I would be sick - LOL. and I am not going to try it either :)

About half of gastric bypass patients do not experience dumping. Others may experience dumping without any vomiting and fail to recognize that it is dumping. You might find some useful information in my post "Dumping the Confusion About Dumping" at

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
