Anyone Else Get Gi Upset From Optifast

Recommended Posts

Have been on it ( no cheating ) 2 1/2 days. I don't feel hungry or tired just have a lot of gas and diarrhea. I also noticed I have to pee constantly. Now I am diabetic so I wonder what this diet is doing to my blood sugar. I noticed the bars contain high fructose corn Syrup but plenty of Protein also. I know this is a liver shrinking diet to but sheesh when I gave to do thus for two straight weeks I hope I can Handle it.

PS I am doing an extra week to jump start my low carb diet to achieve my pre op wt loss requirement.

I've been off and on Optifast for 7 years. They have a specific formulas for diabetic patients, the 800 for mild diabetics nd 70 formulas is sugar free for moderate diabetics. Couple things, your body is getting proper good nutrition, doesn't matter what shake brand your body will get gassy etc while it takes on the good shake nutrition and processes the bad nutrition from before out of your body. Although its annoying, it's also a sign that your body is loving the good nutrition! As far as the brs, my dad is diabetic on optifast 800 formulas and they told him use the bars very sparingly, basically when he's out and about and he can't make a shake, use the bar. But not eating the bar often at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
