I have been a member of this group since the end of May, although I haven't said anything I have enjoyed all of the encouragement, help, and positive thinking from all of you. I have thought about having this surgery for about 6 years now, but always got scared and said "I will next year if I can't lose the weight this year". Well that never worked so here I am. Ready to start the next chapter in my life. I know I'm ready this time. My surgery is scheduled for July 31st. liquid diet starts July 17th (that I'm a little nervous about). Friends have asked me if I'm nervous, I tell them not really about the surgery, but it's failing my weight loss journey. I have never succeeded it thus far and I hate that. I have concoured many things in my life but not the weight loss. Anyway. Here I am. Looking forward to the future and chatting with you.

I too am afraid of failing, but feel like after all the work and tears I've put in to have this surgery I won't allow myself to. My worst habit pre-op was fast food, and now that I'm almost a month out and eating healthy I've gotten all the MSG and saturated fat out of my system and don't really want to eat unhealthy anymore (regardless that I'd get sick if I did anyways). It's all about starting and keeping good habits in the beginning so after a few years post-op when you're able to eat larger quantities and more unhealthy foods that you choose not to. The gastric bypass is not a cure for obesity, it is quite literally a "restart button" that allows you to get thin and not fuck it up again. Welcome, you're going to do great :]

I agree Lebim. After going through all of this. We need to be incontrol of our life's, not the food.

Bambiv, I too am afraid of failing. I had gastric sleeve 18 months ago and never could get below 190. That was at the 9month mark and I has lost 50 lbs. Then the pounds started slowly adding on until I hit 200 again. That's when my dr suggested we look at a revision.

I had bypass done on 6/28/2012. I CAN'T fail at this as it is the only option I have left. I have to get the weight off.

After the first surgery I never joined a forum or support group. I now realize how important it is going to be to help me be successful. I now feel like I'm reading blogs, forums, or Internet searches all the time trying to make sure I'm doing what I need to do and feeling the way I'm supposed to feel.

You will do amazing and I wish you the best I your weightloss journey.

I love this...it's exactly how I feel but couldn't quite express it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
