What would prevent someone to have LBS other than heart problems?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was just wondering that if and when I am able to have surgery with Dr. Ortiz, what, other than heart problems would prevent me or anyone else from having surgery and/or him doing the surgery?

I don't have heart problems and in pretty good health otherwise, but I don't want to pay all that money only to find out he won't do it or I can't have it done. My friend knows someone at her work that has gone to Mexico once for surgery and was sent home even after being on the operating table because of a heart problem. She went back with the all clear and was sent home again. What is up with that? I hope she didn't have to pay twice! I haven't heard yet why she couldn't have it done the second time. I also don't know who her surgeon was supposed to be.

Thanks for any replies.

Judy

Anything that would prevent you from having ANY sort of surgery would prevent you from having lapband surgery. As surgeries go, the lapband procedure itself is not that lengthy or difficult that hoards of people would be turned away. Perhaps your friend got nervous before her surgery and that brought out a heart problem that was not detectable when she is calm and at home. It sounds like she should investigate that heart thing in more detail.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
