I Need The Groups Advice

Recommended Posts

Ok so I would like some of your opinions

I thought that could do 5 appointments with my pcp land the 6th would be with the surgeon (phsych, nutrition and so on) but I have one more with my pcp, which is fine.

This is the time line I am looking at

July I have my last appoint with pcp and then the surgeon and so surgery could get sched. estimating in Aug or Sept.

This is my non-surgical sched. First week of Aug orientation for Grad school. Third week of Aug 3 day short vacation. September classes start ( not sure on exact date but I will only go one weekend a month)

Hope some of you are still with me ;-)

I will have no problem on getting short-term disability whenever I will need. Also I know that recovery is individual.

But if I don't do this towards the end of Aug (hoping that classes are starting in September) then I more than likely will have to wait till end of semester which is December. Another four months (which I absolutely would rather not wait)

So there is the delemia go for it for the end of aug and suffer through the first semester of school? Or wait till Dec

I think that I could deal with the pain and being home from work could actually work to my benefit for school, but then again will starting a "new life" be all consuming?

Ok there it is guys, my mind is all over.

1,2,3 GO!

I think you should start a new school year fresh:) you will be making better and healthier choices which will allow you stay focused and concentrate on your schooling.... When is your last appt with pcp? I was told when I got approved surgery wait time was 3-4 weeks... I met with surgeon last Monday the 4th and he wanted to do my surgery today! But I decided next Thurs the 21st:) I'm not sure how much time you will spend or need for recovery but being that its summer months you can benefit more...waiting till December can be difficult with trying to control weight or even exercising especially if you live in a snowy state like I do here in Minnesota:)

Hope this helps and good luck:)

If I had pushed myself I could have went back to work after two weeks. However, I have ended up taking 4. It's a bit of a challenge at first to get accustomed to drinking and eating. That being said...if there is any way that you can avoid putting off the surgery, I would. I believe it's more important than education...well really anything...your health should come first. And that's what this is all about!!

I think get the surgery as soon as possible and start school as last as possible...or even take a semester off..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
