I am a 24 year old mother and I have made the conscious decision to have gastric bypass surgery. I had struggled with weight all my life, and it got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. So this is the beginning of my journey ad I'm here to learn new things and hopefully gain support throughout thi journey!!

Thank you! I am still very very early in the process as by early I mean, just having been referred.. I have quite the wait and time ahead of me but to prevent myself from getting discouraged I came here!

I had the band in 2008 and needed to do 6-mo work my primary care doc, education with surgery group, etc. and...lose some weight. so, I can relate :) but it helped me jump-start some weight loss. I'm in a different state now (literally and figuratively) and learning again...I have a new bariatric surgeon here in NC (was in MD) and we've agreed to move toward the bypass. I gained back some from band (actually to the pre-op weight). I'm scheduled for my revision to bypass surgery July 9 and can't wait.

Keep us posted on your journey with all of the insurance, education, etc. We're all here to help. take care :)

Welcome welcome welcome lol.. Im so glad you found this site. Ive been on here maybe two weeks and it's been like therapy for me. I had my gastric bypass 3 years ago and since have had three reconstructive surgeries. I'm about 10-15 pounds from my goal weight so this goes to show you that gastric bypass is just the beginning. Even now being at a healthy weight i still have struggles and still need support. Ous stories are similar. I was heavy my entire life too. This will be a long, hard journey but it's going to be so worth it! Whenever you feel discouraged tell yourself "I DESERVE TO BE HEALTHY" and your child deserves a healthy mommy. You can do this! If have any questions I'm here :-)

Congrats! That is a big decision to make when you have children! I have 3 kids ages 7, 7, and 5 (twins) and it was a tough decision to make but I'm glad I did it for the most part!

Thank you everyone! Already discouraged as the night grows deeper. I'm 270 pounds, 5'8 , BMI OF 41...and people continuously tell me INDONT NEED SURERY. Can people share their starting weight, and where they've gotten too? Am I crazy.. I know this is for me for and ive done the research and my dr supports me, why do people have to be negative? Just venting..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
