When you go into Ketosis your body releases the fat into your system, you'll notice a coating on your tounge, I've found this masks tastes, I usually brush my teeth a lot

Have you or anyone else experienced a slight loss of taste? Even my most favortie foods have tasted a bit bland over the past couple weeks.

It's actually a blessing in disguise, but I dont know why it's happening.

Thanks. I'll try to brush my tongue before I eat tonight to see if it helps.

Someone left the ladder down and a girl is coming into the tree house! I love you guys! I wish us women could/would be as open about this whole procedure (and what it does/doesn't do) as ya'll.

Anway, I am almost 8 months out and find that NOTHING tastes like it used to, not even ice-cream. There have been many nights that we will go out to dinner and I will order 3 or 4 things before I find one that tastes good enough to eat a cup of. It frustrates the crap out of DH as I will say lets go to X, Y, or Z, and he'll say well pick one I don't care. And my response is, I don't know which one, I'll find something to eat at one of them.

I was a big mexican food eater before banding, and now I don't even like mexican food anymore. This band does some weird things!

Good luck guys, and keep up the great work! I just dream of losing the weight as quick as you!!!

Hey Phil,

I know exactly how you feel. It does get better. I just posted this in the April board It will all make sense.

"wow, we are all doing so great. Real food... I can't wait... my doctor has me on "full" liquids until the 19th. I am on Cream Soups, Jello, sf pudding, yogurt. I feel like my twin 1 year olds. Maybe they know more than I do. Last night my family had chinese food, so I ventured to the land of EGG DROP Soup. Wow, after a week of Clear Liquids, a taste explosion. Now, I had an interesting thought.... Last night was the first night all the port pain, and gas was worth it. I figured out one thing in life as a fat guy.. it's been more years than I wish to count where I just realized I haven't tasted food. I just consum mass amounts because it's there, becaused I payed for it ( I guess doggie bags were not in my fat mind! hello, I can eat it twice if I bring some home, what a concept) and maybe, just maybe this food would never appear in front of me again.

I never would have been able to tell you that a half of a 6 oz yogurt could fill me up but yes... we will all make it.

and this board is a big part of the reason why.

Happy Easter,

Pat

Hi Guys!

I live i the UK, but got banded in Belgium on March 28th. A week and a half later I am feeling great!

I was 228 pounds before surgery and am now 218 having lost 10 pounds already! A few days ago I had actually lost 13 pounds but have gained a few pounds since I started the mushy stage of my diet. I was not concerned about the weight gain though as I was hardly eating any calories for the first week after surgery.

Anyway, I am healing well. I have taken off all my stick bandages and the wounds are healing nicely.

I am still getiing a rather numbing pain in my shoulder from time to time. Why is this?

Dave

Hey Dave, (Davethesailor) Welcome and congrats!!!:clap2:

Your shoulder has some pain in it because during surgery your arm is stretched along with the mussels . This will pass soon.

Band of Brothers... Had our first softball double header last thursday night. This was about 3 weeks after banding, so really my first exercise. Let me tell ya...after 3 weeks of recovering, i'm not sure that's the way to go. My whole body was sore, every muscle, but particularly my abs right around the port area. Anyone else get really sore around the port when they went back to exercising? I hadn't felt any pain since about a week after surgery, but I was hurtin' this weekend.

by the way.... with 27lb loss so far, I was a lot more quick and nimble out there. I play 3rd....turned 3 double plays and I gunned someone out at the plate.. Also went and hit some golf balls..... Fighting a BAD hook right now. It's amazing how fast you can turn on a ball without 30lbs of gut in the way.

After my surgery I had an intense craving for spicy foods to the point I was eating peppers straight up. The spicier the better. It seemed to have the side benefit of decreasing an already severely decreased appetite.

Bugfather - "The wierdest experience for me is to not care what's for dinner".

I'm that way too! It's weird because I used to plan well in advance what I wanted to eat. Now as long as I can find something that fits the band guidelines I don't much care. Even the "spicy" craving is pretty much gone.

Good job guys! I actually manage a lapband program....and guys are easier, I must say. You "guys" just do better with weight loss, staying focused, moving on. So if any new guys are interested in our self pay program...let me know.

Log onto www.lapbandindiana.com yes we are in Indiana. We only perform LapBand (not a little lap band and a lotta roux en y)- Just LapBand surgery in an outpatient facility. You can view an online seminar...we try not to make it a large production to actually get a band.

All adjustments for a year in the self pay model. Yes Mexico is cheaper but we are trying to make it affordable for everyone.

So now I will stay off of your forum! But keep up the good work!

Hi all..saw my Cardio Doctor this morning and he gave me the green light

for surgery on Monday April 30...Three weeks from today... to say that I'm excited would be an understatement.

I went to a Lap Band seminar 2 weeks ago and talked to a bandster who is 9 months and 140 lbs later and that really inspired me.

I'll keep you posted

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
