Drinking and eating

Recommended Posts

I'd anyone find it hard to break the habit of drinking with meals. I am trying this practice in anticipation of being sleeved Oct. 22. Maybe it will be easier when my stomach is really small.

I take my glass away and set it by the sink. If I am out, it was harder in the beginning but now its becoming habit.

It will get easier as time goes on.

Good luck!

I drank like normal until my surgery and had no issues with the transition. I just push the cup away and wait an hour.

I'm 12 days out and I find it particularly difficult... Something I definitely have to work on!

It was a hard habit to break. For me, sometimes I have to chose less spicy food because no Water to wash it down.

It's been difficult for me...but it is getting easier. I just don't keep drinks by me when I'm eating otherwise I would drink the whole tome

I was so worried about that also but it's not a big deal. I'm 13 months out and I don't drink for 1.5 hours after I eat. My stomach still has food in it that long and I see no reason to push it out with liquids. I would rather leave food in there and not get hungry.

A friend at work had WLS and he sets the timer on his phone when he has his last bite and when it goes off, he can drink. I'm planning on doing the same...

Yeah, that's what I do. I find the thirst actually passes, and many times I forget to get something to drink even after the alarm goes off. I've been doing this for 4.5 months now. So now it's a habit. Can't imagine drinking with a meal, or soon after, now. You can totally do this.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
