Advice need on the "approval" process in California

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm currently attending weight management education. Any information regarding the next step to take would be wonderful. I'm so excited and looking forward to what's to come.

Have you confirmed that your insurance will cover the surgery and how much you will have to pay out of pocket?

No I haven't. What do I ask ? And is that I red flag for them?

No but you should check to make sure they cover it. I am in California and my only out of pocket was the 250 dollar co pay plus the usual 20 dollars when I see the doctor. If you have flex spending account a and your surgery will be after Jan 1 you can figure out the cost and use the account. That is what I did.

No not at all. Most insurance companies send you the requirements for bariatric surgery. A check list of sorts. They also give you the time line. In my case (Health Net) requires a 6 month check in period. During that time you have to do various requirements. I would start there. Then you'll have a better understanding of what to do next. Just ask them if they cover bariatric surgery and ask if they can send you the guidelines or requirements. And whatever you do don't miss a month of weigh in's. If you do you have to start from the beginning.

Thank you for your suggestions. I called this morning and gave me the information I needed. But won't get approval until Ive completed the course and eval. I'm 8 into my weight management required classes. So excited to have them done and start the process I just want to hear or see the words YOUR APPROVED. I've waited for so long and excited for what the future will bring. Thank you for your support!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
