I am on my pre op diet, I started Fri, 01/19 and I am scheduled to be banded Fri, 02/02....the weekend was a lil tricky and I have to admit I didn't stick to it as strictly as I should have but today since I am back at work I haven't had a problem....I work M-F and have weekends off....what is your pre op diet, I am to have one "normal/low fat" meal a day and Protein Shakes for the other two meals and Snacks, but I know all doctors are different. Good Luck!

Hi Cindy,

I also started my pre-op diet 01/19 and am scheduled to be banded 02/02/07. My diet is that same as yours and I am having problems not snacking. I'm a little concerned about the post-op liquid diet. Have you felt hungry while on this diet, what Protein Shakes are you using? Good luck to you!!! :)

Dori,

Jeez, have I felt hungry, that is a big 10-4.....but I am trying to fight it.

The doctor also said I could supplement my hunger if it got really bad with very lean, sliced turkey and/or string cheese, because they both have alot of protein....and I can't wait to go home and snack on some!

The shakes I am using are Slim Fast, but it must be the Low Carb kind, they have the lowest amount of sugar and the highest amount of Protein (19-20 grams, I think). I also like the Carb Solutions shakes, they have even fewer calories than Slim Fast and 21 grams of Protein.< /p>

Hang in there and keep in touch, I need all the Band buddies I can get!!!

Cindy,

Thanks for the information on the shakes. I am also trying the slim fast shakes, and also the EAS chocolate one is pretty good. When I do cheat I try to only eat meats so I stick to the Proteins, but at night I swear the sweats in the pantry call my name!!!:hungry: I will keep in touch, I need all the support I can get...:clap2:

Dori,

Ohmigosh....ya gotta clean out that pantry....I did yesterday and thank goodness or I would've been chowing down after I got home from work today. Also, they said I could have sugar free Jello to (maybe) help with the sweet tooth. I am finding that some of my "hunger" is just a habit, like this evening I was home alone and if that junk food had still been in the pantry I would've chowed down out of boredom....HANG IN THERE, we can do it!!!

I started my "liquid" pre-op diet on Wed. Jan. 17 and am to be banded Jan. 31. My options are protien/glucose control drinks (boost, etc.), broth, diet drinks, Water (can be flavored like Propel), sugar free Jello, pudding and popsicles, and lowfat yogurt. The choices don't seem bad but I felt so bad the first few days I didn't want to eat. Sugar withdrawal? Then the choices were so unappealing that I would rather not eat at all. Some problems with drinks causing...well...diarrhea...so added to disinterest in drinking them.

Today I forced down 2 Boosts, a pudding, a broth and water. Maybe 600 calories. I would rather go to bed than eat this stuff. I have dropped a dozen pounds quickly but between this drastic diet change and the concerns I have over not freaking out over this choice I am making my moods are being effected.

I will make it. I have past the birthday party, graduation party and buffet meal with a group of friends with only a jello and a pudding, so I know I can do this but I cannot believe that for weeks after banding it will be even more of less of this!

Is there anyone else out there who went through this. I am not a moody person, pretty much the same day in and out and usually laughing too much! It has even made me not want food!!! I have developed quite a swing this week!

I just joined the forum today. I am up here in Gainesville! I'm scheduled to have my lap band on 2/5/07 at No. Fl Regional Hosp by Dr. Timothy Hipp. It sounds like you are doing very well. I so enjoy reading all these threads. They are encouraging and I think I will need a lot of encouragement. I plan on going to all the support group meetings that are offered. It is nice talking to you.

I am also finding this 2 week liquid diet so hard!!! And what's worse..my husband would kill me if I even tried to cheat. I'm mad, I'm grumpy and this face hasn't smiled at all since!! I'm not hungry, I'm not full, but I just want food. I know it's just boredom, but I still want it. I can't stop thinking about it. I keep having the urges to call the doctor and postponing just one more week. I wish I could have had a week of all my favorite meals. I went to my consult on the 17th..he put me on Optifast starting that afternoon. I know one last meal wouldn't have made me THAT happy, but I really wish I would have had it. I know I don't need it..I've enjoyed food for way too long and it's time to change. My mind thinks differently of course. I'm hoping this withdrawl and mourning stage will end soon. I feel like everyday I go back and forth ..should I or shouldn't I have this surgery? I even cried today while I was heating my broth and cooking the rest of the family a yummy dinner. And talk about creative?? I always hated cooking!! NOW I'm making up the yummiest recipes and everyone is loving me! UGHHHH Things just seem really boring now..no meals to look forward to, nothing to snack on at night..I've got to find something to fill my time I guess. I refuse to let ME talk ME out of having this surgery. I need the help!! The best thing for me is to look at the before and after pics when I feel like I'm starving to death. It helps sooo much! It's just really tough going through with a liquid diet for 2 weeks when I've never done it before. I will do it...I'll just be a little crazy while I'm doing it. teehee!!

Sorry for the whine.

All you can do is your best. Remember nobody is perfect. I too, had the pre-op diet for 2 weeks before surgery. Surprisingly, I was able to stick to it. Alot of people don't have to do a pre-op diet. Different doctors, different opinions. I still experience the head hunger and often am not able to control myself from overeating. The head hunger is the worst. Again, all we can do is our best. "Good Luck Everyone"

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
