I had my team look into liquid meds for me at first but it was not too long and I was able to take the pills again....The Vitamins can be a real pain..Look for the highest doses with the smallest tablets...or chewables...

My doctor had me on pain meds in pill form before I was even discharged from the hospital. The first week or so, it felt strange to swallow pills as I could literally feel them hit my stomach, which was a new and odd sensation, but that quickly subsided. I think you will probably find that you will do fine with them after the first few weeks.

I had no problems swallowing my pills. I didn't take my Gabapentin for a couple wks cuz its a horse pill but I took everything else without problems. U may not be able to down 10 pills at once (I used to, now I swallow 3-4, don't want to risk it)

My post op pain meds was liquid Vicodin. Wish it had been a pill. Tastes nasty....

Good luck

My doc had me on liquid pain meds & the other pills I had to break up & eat with sugar free applesauce for first 3 weeks. Told me not to swallow anything hard or solid.

I took regular pills from day 2 post op. I was even allowed Bupropion XL (which is an extended release but not broken down with stomach acid) I would just ask your surgeon what they want you to do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
