Can't get my protein in

I was sleeved on the 16th and am having really hard time getting protein in. The shakes I liked pre surgery make me gag. I only get about 20-30 grams a day. I don't want to lose my hair. Any ideas? I also take two small pills a day. The doctor says to crush them for three weeks. Does anyone know why? I'm tired of the chalky, nasty taste. I don't know what harm it could do to just take the pills.

i, too, have had a hard time "enjoying" the protein shakes since surgery. i turned to isopure for a while but got sick of that quickly. so instead of having to drink 3 shakes a day i bought the ready to drink premier protein shakes, they are 30g each and i think they are 10 ounces? i can get one down in about an hour. i drink one in the morning and one at night with little things in between. and it brings me right to my 60g of protein. see if you can find heavy protein filled drinks that way you don't have to have a lot during the day. good luck!

I was sleeved on 9-10 and have been on liquids until my appointment yesterday. I always have a drink in my hand. That's why I like the Nectar.....because you mix it with water and you can count that toward protein and water intake. I think that is key. I am never hungry either, but I know if I don't drink my protein there will be negative side effects.....and if you don't get your water or powerade zero or something, you are going to get very dehydrated. I think you need a glass in your hand all day long and sip sip sip.

I think the key is to go to some place like Vitamin shop or vitamin world and buy yourself 15 or 20 different Protein drinks and try them until you find one you can enjoy. For me, my favorite is Premier Protein sold at Sam's and costco.

You could also add some unflavored protein powder to pudding, yogurt, and many other things. Also you can drink some milk and add some powered milk to that to get additional protein.

I liked the unjury before surgery' date=' but hated it afterwards. I drink a bottle of Isopure between breakfast and lunch and a half bottle between lunch and dinner. So I get 60 grams in from that plus my egg, Beans, meat, cheese, etc. A friend recommends EAS from walmart. She says it's cheap and she likes it. I'm not a milk drinker of any kind, so not really hot on anything that's shake-like. I may try a bottle of the EAS just to have a break from the Isopure. Hate Isopure green tea, but the other flavors aren't bad. They are expensive at GNC, but my local grocery has them at 3.99 a bottle. I stock up.[/quote']

You can also get the bottles of isopure by the case online...I just bought a few cases on Monday from bodybuilding.com I think it came to around $3.25 or 3.50 a bottle

I was sleeved 9/11. Im really struggling with protein intake as well. Im finally getting 50oz. of fluids (and closer to the 64oz. Goal everyday). But the protein intake is pitiful at best (i hit 40g. Twice!!) I bought 9 types of protein before the surgery and tolerated them well on my Pre op diet. However, post op is a totally different story. I can't stand any of them. They don't sit well in my pouch and after about 5 minutes of drinking, I start gagging from the shakes. :/ It also doesn't help that I don't drink milk or tolerate the Greek yogurt (absolutely gag me lol). I tried the Proti drinks (fruity flavored stuff) but I gag with those as well now :/ I do like my tomato soup made with milk. Im going to check out this IsoPur tomorrow. Im kind of at a loss myself over the protein issue. I also am very jealous of you guys that are able to get your protein in :) I think Im going to email my NUT tomorrow about this issue. That might be a good idea for you as well. Good luck!!

Let me tell you about protein shots! Lol Bariatric Choice has them for 3.79 and it's 42g of protein per shot. I just ordered 4... I'd rather drink a shot than to sip on Isopure all day.... It doesn't taste so good and I bought a whole case of them. Ask me where it is lol

I don't really like the taste of any protein drinks. My lesser evil is the Slim Fast High Protein. Some days I don't get all my protein in. I try to eat as much as possible, so I don't need the supplement as much. My NUT told me to only drink one protein drink a day because the already mixed drinks are higher in calories than the powder, which I absolutely hate. The shots sound like a good idea, but do they taste terrible too? I'll bite, where do you buy them?

oopsie :)

I bought mine on Bariatric choice but they are sold at Walmart for $1 cheaper. I didn't know until I went to buy more shakes lol but go for it! It taste like Jello to me and has a thick consistency but not too thick just not like juice or Water. Maybe like a between a juice and jello, but more on the juice side lol can't explain but it's good. It's very tolerable.
