  1. Before surgery, my surgeon told me that about half of people who have wls divorce within a year of surgery. I smiled, nodded, and dismissed that info because I always thought that while my marriage is not perfect, that would never happen to me. I have been married for 15 years, have 3 kids, and love my husband. That being said, my emotions from one moment to the next change quickly and sometimes I truly hate my husband. I don't know why and neither does my poor husband. I get angry that he eats whatever he wants, whenever he wants. I'm angry that I can't just go get a Big Mac to feel better (yes, I have food issues) and my anger is just out of proportion to the situation. I'm just angry at everything. Am I the only one going through this? My marriage is very shaky at the moment and the fact that I get so angry so quickly is not helping matters. I feel bad for my husband and we have talked about this, but it hasn't helped. I just don't understand myself and quite frankly, it is a little scary. Is this mood change because of surgery or is it just me? I can also cry at the drop of the hat about stupid things. Divorce is not an option, but I also don't expect my husband to want to wait around for a few years until I am "normal" again. I hate myself right now....

    Marriage And Too Many Emotions

Thanks so much for the responses. It makes me feel better that I am not the only one feeling this way. I have been on anti depressants since before I was sleeved and the meds don't even touch this anger (if it is depression that I am feeling). The idea of a "code word" is a good one that I may incorporate. To be honest, I had not thought too much about clinging to my husband instead of pushing him away, but that is excellent advise. And I just now realized that I am being very self centered and that is not okay. I need to put more effort into loving my husband and loving on my children because they are worried...I can see it in their faces. I think I will look into counseling. When I started this weight loss journey I thought I would get skinny, be active, and be happy. I confess that I didn't think about the process at all...just the final result.

    Annoying Birthday Cake

I think it was kind of rude of them to get you a cake after you asked them not to, but I would just let it go. Go get yourself some chicken fingers and enjoy Happy birthday!

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess that I am one month out and have never gotten all my protein in. I confess that if I eat any type of carb I am completely STARVING the rest of the day. I confess that I am jealous of my husband and kids when they eat fast food and I can't. I confess that I want birthday cake so badly. I confess that sometimes I think, "What the hell did I do to myself?" I confess that I've only lost 30lbs and I think it should be more.
  5. I was sleeved on the 16th and am having really hard time getting protein in. The shakes I liked pre surgery make me gag. I only get about 20-30 grams a day. I don't want to lose my hair. Any ideas? I also take two small pills a day. The doctor says to crush them for three weeks. Does anyone know why? I'm tired of the chalky, nasty taste. I don't know what harm it could do to just take the pills.
  6. The Listerine breath strips were wonderful when I wasn't allowed water after surgery and my mouth was so dry. It was also great when my new stomach didn't want to keep anything down. I brought books and stuff with me, but mostly I just slept the sleep of the drugged. Good luck!

    Pain Level after Surgery

It really depends on how he is with pain. I don't do well with pain. I was in pain for two weeks which is not "typical". I took pain meds religiously and had to get a refill. I was so uncomfortable sitting, laying down, walking....I was pretty miserable, but the pain meds helped. But it did get better day by day.
  8. I had surgery on the same day. I lost 20 lbs and have been stalled for two weeks. I can either get all my water in or all my calories (and protein) in, but not both. It's super discouraging.

    sleeping

I was allowed to lay flat after surgery. It took about a week (and lots of pillows) before I was comfortable enough to lay on my side.

  11. I believe with leakage you would have extreme pain and fever. I was swollen for about two weeks.

    Felling Really Lazy.

I slept a lot after surgery, still do. I have had a few days that I slept most of the night and day. The bad thing was I wasn't getting my liquids in, but my body sure did need the sleep. Listen to your body and rest when it tells you. You'll be back to normal before you know it!

    question please answer. I'm scared

I didn't have to do a sleep study, but I was a cash pay patient, so perhaps that is why. I told the surgeon I didn't have sleep apnea and that was enough. In truth, I do snore, so it was a possibility, but I did fine through surgery. I was a very scared the closer I got to surgery as well. You'll do fine. Everyday is better than the day before.
  15. I'm 15 days out and I've had a rough two weeks, so if I can make it to the mailbox and back I'm happy. Doctor said he is more concerned with me healing than beginning an exercise plan right now. That is good because just take a shower is a two part deal. Part one is taking the shower, part two is getting the energy up to get dressed. Good luck!

    Can't get my protein in

I actually o have some non fat dry milk and hadn't thought of adding it to Soup. That sounds like a great idea. I see a lot of people on this board don't have a hard time getting protein in and I am so jealous. Every bite and oz is a victory and not nearly as much as it is supposed to be.

    Can't get my protein in

I haven't thought of milk...that's a good idea. I have been eating Activia because I've been having bowel problems, but the protein amount isn't wonderful. Also, Nesquik is a good idea as well. Thanks!

    Can't get my protein in

I am trying to get my fluids in, not doing a great job, but I am not dehydrating. I will try Nectar...is it in health food stores? I have tried shakes and the protein shots, but I can not keep them down
  19. That might be why they were on clearance. This might sound odd, but can't you stretch the sleeves? I have big arms and have always had to do that You might want to try some compression type garment...I haven't really looked into it yet, but it's probably what I will have to do. Good luck!

5 weeks out scale hasnt moved

Do you have your measurements from before? Perhaps you are losing inches instead of pounds.
  21. So I'm sitting in my hotel room, my husband asleep, and I can not sleep for anything. I have to be at the hospital at 6am and am so nervous. I am keeping in mind why I am doing this, but I'm still nervous. I have rationalized that it doesn't matter if I don't get any sleep because I will be put out tomorrow anyway when they do the surgery. It is outpatient and I should be having the surgery at 7am and released at 1pm. I'm not looking forward to the pain. I hope it's an easy surgery and recovery...if only I could sleep.....

    My feelings got hurt Tonight

I'm so sorry...that is awful! Be glad you met him now and realized what an idiot he was, rather than later when you've lost and the weight and didn't see him for the person he is!
  23. This made me laugh out loud. Yes, I would empty the purse to and bring in all kinds of candy, mcdonalds, tacos, and coke. I never thought of fried chicken! That would have been yummy I have figured out that I should avoid the movies at all cost, that's why we got Netflix. Easier to drink my Water without the dark theater that hid my shameful eating for so long!

    High BMI

My surgery is not until the 16th, but my BMI is 55. I am hoping to be able to lose enough weight to be in the "normal" range.

Did you keep your surgery a secret?

I'I've IIve of I've told my mom, my brother, and a cousin. I won't be telling my MIL or husband's side of the family because all they do is gossip. I actually like my MIL, but don't tell her anything I don't want everyone to know. Other than that, when people notice I am losing weight I will tell them that I am eating less and exercising more (which is truthful).
