Scared of food 

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 7 days ago. On liquid diet for 2 weeks and then I have to move onto custard style food.for 2 weeks and then pureed food for another 2.

The thing is as the days draw nearer I'm getting scared to death of food.

I know I shouldn't but I'm stepping on the scales daily and seeing a pound of here and two of here and I'm really enjoying it.

When I start eating food I'm thinking this is going to stop . I dont know how much I'm going to be able to eat but I'm scared that I'm

Just going to carry on and not realise I'm full unless it's that bursting feeling of omg I'm

Going to be sick if I eat any more so I had better stop.

I have not been hungry once in last 7 days .

My fear is the greedy monster inside me is going to return.

I just want to stay on liquids :(

I understand what you mean. As long as you always eat Protein first before veggies, carbs, etc., you honestly won't have room for "bad" stuff. I think it's a good thing to be afraid, it'll keep you on your toes.

I am 6 days post-op and am experiencing some of the same fears as you! I feel unsure of what I will be able to eat, how much, when to stop, etc. But once we reach solid foods, I think if we always remain conscious about what we are putting in our mouths we will be okay. I like the reply before me, that it is okay to be scared/worried because it will keep you aware. I think I will be so afraid of leakage that that fear will help me learn how to stop eating before I'm full! Not like before surgery when I wasn't paying attention to my body. Hang in there, the knowledge will come with experience!

I was so scared in the beginning as well.....I'm 3.5 months out & I'm eating like a champ! I had 2 different salads today one with salmon & one with chicken. It will get easier and better each & everyday! Remember to eat very slow, take small bites & chew very well, you got this!

One month out here... you may be afraid of food for a whole different reason by the time you can eat. It's a real process.... learning what your sleeve can tolerate. You won't forget and over do I promise.....REALLY you will feel quite bad if you manage to eat too quickly or too much....you will be fine.

Look at it this way: if you don't start eating real food soon, your body will think you are trying to starve it to death, and it will start holding onto its weight. So the 1-2 lbs daily loss will come to a screeching halt. food, especially Protein, is necessary for continued weight loss.

Follow your surgeon's program to the letter. Concentrate on getting your Protein and fluids in. You'll be fine.

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

Interesting. I haven't had my sleeve yet but I forsee this same this being a issue for me too. A very good friend of mine who had her sleeve gave me some good advice. She said no matter the obstacle, live in that one moment, that one meal. Its like learning to walk again. One tiny step at a time. Best wishes xx

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
