Would a Lap-Band Help This Man?

Recommended Posts

At 1,200 Pounds, I doubt it.

I wish this man the best of luck, but he will need more than a diet IMHO.

He was just featured on the Health Channel. I think he has lost 400# but apparently isn't planning any weight loss surgery at this time. When he first made the news he was planning on being flown to Italy and have a gastric bypass performed by some surgeons that took an interest in him and answered his ad in the paper for help. They didn't think he could be safely flown and put it off for a while.

I couldn't understand why he didn't work with the surgeons in Monterrey, some of whom are the best in the world.

Who is bringing him the food?????? He can't walk. How did he get to such a horrible condition before help was sought?

Wow - I just read his story. It is really heartbreaking. I think at 1,000 + pounds, he might not make it through a bypass. I'm with Mariah. Someone had to be bringing him his food, enabling the situation. I hope whoever that was is now out of the picture.

It's good to see some of those experts say that people who are morbidly obese are different than anyone else, in the sense of how the body tells you when to eat and when to stop. I also agree that food is an addiction like many others.

They have in there the story of another man who was 1100 lbs and lose 900 with Richard Simmons, but now he's almost back where he was. I think that's a prime example that dieting just will not work for some people. It's amazing to me that the guy is healthy, good for him, but it's amazing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
