Bruised Belly Button

Recommended Posts

I'm six days post op and all my incisions are much pretty painless, even my "big" incision is almost pain free. But my belly button incision is kinda freaking me out. I noticed my pj shorts were sort of rubbing against it, causing a little irritation. Then it bled a tiny bit. Called the surgeons office and they told me to just clean with peroxide and cover with gauze. So I've been doing that, but now it looks pretty banged up. I don't have my pre-op til Tuesday. Just wondering has anyone had this happen too?

My belly button incision took the longest after my gall bladder. It's not looking so pretty this time either. Try to not irritate it with your pants - it might be time to revisit the high waistline. Lol. I've been wearing yoga pants with the fold over waist and leaving it unfolded kind of like maternity pants. Good luck!

My belly button bruised so bad after surgery. And now it will bleed and leak yellowish gunk, I have to call the surgeon tomorrow. I was bruised a deep purple and about 3 inches all the way around my belly button.

I am 3 weeks post op and still have very sore belly button, slight redness, and it has a little drainage. Doctor gave me bacitracin antibiotic by mouth to be sure no infection and said it has t run its course. It's been the hardest part to get over. Glad to know I am not alone, , hope you get better. Wear loose pants and keep area clean.

I have a total of 5 incisions, 4 small and one larger one but I don't have any on my belly button. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that must be. Hope you find some relief soon!

It's nice to know I'm not alone. My fiancée tells me I look like I got in a fight and lost :/ yoga pants will be my best friend for a while. I cover it with gauze just incase my pants do rub. It makes it painful to bend over, so I have to squat to get something.

I have a frightening picture from the day I came home from the hospital - someday I will post it. I had complications with my surgery that kept my in the hospital for 5 days (internal bleeding) - the day I came home the biggest of my incisions opened up and it was like old faithful with the blood (I guess there was a void - it was old blood that had ben collecting) - looked like I had been beaten in the stomach with a baseball bat - a massive black bruise the size of a dinner plate (at least). All good now though :)

Where can you buy yoga pants for a 53" belly? The largest size I see on the internet is 44. Should I just get maternity pants for after surgery?

Try Roamans.com, womanwithin.com or Catherines.com. All three of them carry larger sizes.

i'm five days post op. they didn't go through my belly button, but right above it and it's definitely the worst out of all the incisions. it's black and blue and really itchy, probably because it is our pants/waistline. i feel your pain! just do what your doctor says, and i'm sure it'll all clear up! good luck! :)

The belly button thing heals up fine. It was bad for me, too, but after a few weeks it will be OK.

Thanks to this subject coming up, I am going to add it to my list of questions for my first surgeons visit tomorrow morning. I am going to ask him where he will place the incisions.

I also found on Walmart online some that went up to 5x and they were comfy more of a "jogging" type pant than yoga, but I have gotten yoga pants from Walmart as well. I lived in these for about 2 months for fear of my incisions.

I'm five weeks post op and the belly button one had caused me so much grief. It looks like a crater and had oozed green puss for the longest. I underwent scans to make sure there were no sleeve leakages and all was well on that front. I put a bandaid on thinking it would "protect" it from friction, but apparently that was the wrong thing to do. Since I've started giving it air and keeping it clean it has started to scab, but then clothes will mess it up again!! Brought butterfly bandages this weekend inthe hopes that it will allow it to breathe while being somewhat protected

I shopped around online at the suggested stores an ended up at Target's website. I finally decided on maternity pants. The last time I wore maternity pants was 33 years ago. But at least they should come up over my entire belly. it is difficult for me to walk a big box store, but I will see if I can get some yoga or jogging pants that I can try on at the Walmart.< /p>

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
