Why, why, why, Delilah?

I have always had thick, wavy, luxurious hair. Truly.

Whenever someone complimented my hair, I would go into full Fat Girl mode and deflect it by saying...

God is fair. He gave me a weight problem but balanced it by giving me great hair.

So....60 lbs later, I am seeing less luxury.

I am determined not to let my vanity get in the way of gratitude for the blessing of improved health. Type II diabetes - GONE. High blood pressure - GONE. Kidney function - IMPROVED close to normal.

Besides, they still sell Eva Gabor wigs, right?

;)

And the thinner hair wont be forever. It will come back. Then you will have great hair again as well as your health!

I haven't had the surgery yet but, my doctor said the supplements will help. I take 5,000mg of the hair, skin and nails, one pill each day. It does take at least 2 months for you to see a difference. I have also heard fish oil pills work great!

Yeah, I started taking 5000mcg of Biotin twice a day 2 weeks before surgery and now 6 weeks later my nails are crazy. I've never been able to grow them they always split and peel and they aren't and they are thick. I'm shocked.

I feel your pain :( I'm loosing my hair in clumps myself, thank The Lord I had a full think hair, it's so much thinner now, I'm taking 12,500 gm of Biotin and other supplement to help with Hair loss also using some drops I got at the hair salon. My doc told me it should slow down or stop after three month. I'm praying that it does. Try consuming more Protein too, that is also key to help slowdown the hair lose according to my doc. Good luck. And remember it will grow back.

Wow...I didn't know you could take more than 5k units a day. I'll try doubling up.

Thanks all!

My bottle actually recommendations it twice a day but, I honestly can't tolerate it because it makes me run to the bathroom (sorry I know TMI). I know after awhile it would pass but, I think one has worked great for me so far.

The Hair loss sucks!!! Every day after my shower, I'm almost in tears. I don't think it's noticable to others... yet, but I can tell. If it keeps up like this I'll be bald in 2-3 months. It's been about a month of losing and I hope it stops or at least slows down soon. I bought the Toppix hair fibers and they help make it less noticable. Especially at the scalp at my bangs.

What is the maximum dose of Biotin we can take daily? I need it stat! My ponytails have shrunk down to the size of a two year olds. Sometimes the ponytail holder just slides right off. No hair.< /strong>

I'm pre-op, but I was talking to my hair dresser the other day as she was doing my hair about the surgery and Hair loss. She said lots of her clients have seen hair loss due to weight loss and told me that besides Biotin I need to take Gelatin starting now, and once it starts coming out not to do vigorous brushing or pony tails, as they both will pull a lot from the roots.

I am just a little over 9 months post op. Between about month 3 and month 7 I can't even remember how many times I cried in the shower as I watched clumps of hair fall out... when brushing my hair there was times I even regreted the surgery. I went from having full and thick curly hair to being able to see my scalp no matter how I did my hair. I never took any supplements. Time has slowly started to heal my poor head of hair. It has stopped falling out for the most part and is starting to fill back in. I know this is not what you want to hear, but if you just keep doing what you're doing and stay patient... your beautiful hair will come back to you soon. :)

All good advice. I've reduced shampooing to about once a week. No more hair dryer. It's air dry for me. And I just finger comb it to reduce breakage.

I refuse to let hair get the best of me. A dear friend went thru chemo and lost every strand. Her dignity and strength made her more beautiful than any hairdo.

She was in the fight of her life and didn't sweat the small stuff. I'm going to follow her lead.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
