How long did it take to schedule surgery?

Recommended Posts

How long after your last nutritionist appointment and psych visit was surgery scheduled for you? I have my 5th appointment with the nutritionist on Monday and one left at the end of October. My care coordinator is scheduling my appointment with the psychologist at the beginning of November....Things are moving fast! Just curious how long everyone's insurance approval took and how long surgery was scheduled after they were approved?

It took me about a month to do all the pre op requirements. The office submitted on Monday and Thursday the same week I was approved. I have Empire bcbs, Anthem. Oo and my surgery date was given to me on my first visit with the surgeon after the seminar. They said if I wasnt approved by then, the date would change. Good thing I did lol. It seems all the offices operate so differently. Good Luck! I hope you get a date soon!

I met with the NUT for the 1st time on Sept 11. My 2nd and final appointment with the NUT & WLS is October 2nd. The NUT asked me when did I want to be scheduled, I said as soon as possible, and he said, okay then it will likely be 1 to 1.5 weeks from Oct 2nd. So I'm looking at mid-October! Can't wait.

Isn't it odd how they all work and operate differently..lol I guess the doctor's office is no different than the insurance companies... so many variations in practices and for approvals. I was pre-approved 1 day after my 1st meeting with the surgeon in August..just had to do all the required test and other appointments.

I met with my surgeon on Sept 11 and it was submitted to my insurance that day. I called BCBS about 3 hours after my appt to see if it was submitted. They had received it and told me I would get a call by the end f the week to let me know if it was approved. My phone rang first thing the next day saying it was approved. Then my drs office called by lunch to give me my date. It's Nov 7 that was her first available date plus I have to do a 4 week liquid diet prior. But it all went supper quick. I went on August 21 for my consultation video and in 3 weeks time I had my surgery scheduled. I would contact your insurance company as soon as it is submitted and continue to stay in the loop. If Blue Cross. Blue Shields can approve mine in less than 5 hours I'm sure anyone can get it done.

i met with my surgeon for consultation on july 2nd and he wanted to schedule me for september right away. but i couldn't pick a date because i had to figure out if i could switch my college classes to online classes because attendance would probably be an issue. they scheduled my surgery for september 19th, but moved me to the 18th. so they scheduled me first and then made all my appointments. i guess it made it more real for me. it gave me a lot of motivation to actually lose the 20lbs they wanted me to lose, and to get all my appointments done quickly. good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
