Metal detectors?

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking about this. Would a band set off a metal detector? I know it is mostly silicone, but there is a small amount of stainless steel in the connector, I believe. Anyone know?

My doctor told me that my port metal was titanium and thet it would not effect any metal detectors. Stainless is also not magnetic. Hope this helps

I know that small piece of metal is MRI safe, so I would assume it probably wouldn't set off an airport metal detector. I'll ask our patients.

I've flown several times since being banded and didn't set off the metal detectors. I wondered if it would, too. Sure was glad I didn't have to show my scars and explain to security I wasn't a terrorist:nono:

I've set off one metal detector in the 30+ flights I've taken since banding. The guy immediately asked me if I had a medical implant and I told him I did, so I had to go off to the side and get the full head to toe scan.

*Edit: I can't say for sure it wasn't something else that triggered the detector, but even when they came over with the wand it was triggering right over my port area, and I did not have an underwire bra on. I can't really make heads or tails of it because this was coming out of my home airport, and through the same terminal I go through 85% of the time. There's no real reason for it to have triggered that time, but not the others. *shrug*

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
