July VSGers... How's it going?

Recommended Posts

How is everyone doing from the July group? I had VSG on July 10, started at 346.6. Now I'm at 293.2... Down about 53 pounds. I'm feeling good. I still can't SEE a difference in my physical appearance. Others make positive comments, but I'm not able to see it yet.

How's everyone else doing?

Hey there! Doing well here too. Surgery was July 5th and down 56 lbs total. Finally settling into some sense of normalcy with eating. Have hit the gym a few times in the past three weeks with no issues. I'm down 2-3 sizes depending on the brand and am feeling really good. I think it's probably easier for others to see it before we do. But that's just my opinion. Keep up the good work sounds like you're doing great!

My sleeve was 7-8-13. Heaviest was 340. Today I am 271. So give or take 70 lbs down. Very happy :) Hasn't been a walk in the park for sure but I feel like a different person. 130lbs to go!

I was sleeved on July 8 th. down 56 lbs, SW 255, hit onderland this week! Still have a lot restriction and get my 60g Protein. Exercise 4x week. Skin sagging and losing tons of hair. I'm like the OP, can't see the difference but everyone notices the change. I think it's bc in my head I always looked like this but thought all my photos were bad angles or bad days.

Congrats on onederland!!! I had hoped to get there by Christmas but at 230 today I don't think I can pull off 30 lbs in 2 months. I am down 69.4lbs, 50.8 since my 7/17 surgery.

Hi everyone. I was sleeved July 9, 2013 and have lost 70 pounds. I am trying not to compare myself to others in here because it only makes me feel down. I am happy with my results so far and look forward to feeling better every day. This surgery has been a blessing to me. My weight has been a life long struggle and I have finally got control of it. I will keep following my food plan and I am sure I will continue to get healthier with every passing day. I am so very happy and hopeful.

Hi July Sleevers!

I was sleeved on July 26th and have lost 70 lbs since surgery. Total of 91 lbs since my pre-op diet. I am very happy with my loss but I have noticed in the last month, it has started to slow down. I'm sure the last 28 pounds will take me just as long if not longer to lose than the first 70. That's perfectly ok with me though! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
