How do you stall if you never start?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks out today. I just upgraded to soft mushy food.

I've lost 2 lbs since surgery.

Anyone else have this problem?

I lost 20 lbs with the pre op diet. I was on a week of liquids, and 2 of puree. I can eat maybe 2 oz depending on what the food is.

I am just crazy frustrated. I feel like something is wrong. I've already seen my surgeon, and i see him again at the end of the month. I feel like the scale won't move by the next time i see him.

Drinking enough fluids? Enough Protein? I know, same old questions. You will lose. Your body is probably in shock trying to hold onto whatever it can so you don't starve to death. Just continue your plan and forget about the scale. Are your clothes getting loose? Are your feet and legs swollen? Maybe you haven't lost the Water weight from surgery. Best of luck to you. Make sure and tell us what happens in a month from now.

It sounds like you are in the classic, dreaded third week stall - it's just early since you started early with your pre op diets. We typically lose quickly the first two to three weeks of any major weight loss effort as we burn off our short term reserves of glycogen, at which time our body gets the idea that we are serious about this caloric deficit thing and starts to decide that its time to start drawing from our long term reserves of fat, But that can take some time, as we have to rebuild the glycogen reserves from this initial fat burn, and that also involves retaining some Water to keep it in solution, so we start burning fat but retaining some Water = no or little weight loss until the glycogen reserves are back to a workable level, even though we are starting to burn the fat.

In short, don't worry, you aren't broken, and it will start moving again soon.

I actually am having a problem getting in all the fluids along with Protein and eating. I'm not even sure how many times a day i'm supposed to eat.

Thanks to my nut that never calls, it's like shes forgotten about me. She expects me to remember everything she told me 6 months ago when i first saw her. (Yes i did leave her a message today.)

I'm picking up one of those big poland spring bottles and trying to finish that in a day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
