Anyone having surgery with Dr. Garcia in TJ last week of October?

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all! I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for surgery in TJ with Dr. Garcia, and am hoping to have it done either October 25th or 26th. I need to confirm dates with Alma, but it looks like that is the best window of time to take a few weeks off work. The hubby said he would go when I first decided to have surgery, but is now being a bit of an a**hat and so it looks like I'll be going solo. Would sure like to meet some sleeve buddies to share this journey with me! :-)

I went there solo at the end of July to have mine done and did just fine. The only real reason I wish that hubby had gone with me was to help with the little things in the hospital room (2 days) that I didn't want to call a nurse for. Examples: I wanted to send out emails but couldn't handle getting my computer out; I dropped my hairbrush on the floor; my drain bag sprung a leak and made a mess of everything; etc.

Although we decided together that I should go alone (we were on a very tight budget) since I've been home I've discovered that he was the one who suffered more while I was gone. I had no idea until recently how much he worried about me while I was gone. :-)

If you need to go by yourself, then do...you can handle this! Sending good thoughts your way and wishing you good luck on your journey.

I highly recommend taking someone. I needed help getting into and out bed, even. You will probably be sore and uncomfortable and the extra hands are good.

Hi Gretchen_e, I am hoping for the same dates as you, I sent in my medical questionnaire to Alma over a week ago and still haven't heard back yet. Also waiting for an insurance payout for final funding. Where are you from? I live in Las Vegas.

I would suggest you resend your email to Alma. I had sent her an email that she hadn't responded to so I emailed her again a couple days ago and she had overlooked it. Her office had flooded so I think she was distracted with that. Once I sent the follow up email she had responded fairly quickly.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
