41 and trying to wait patiently

Recommended Posts

Well I have everything done seen the dr insurance has been approved Yay!!! Only took 3 days to be approved. Now the wait for a month to see the nutritionist ugh a month, but they said when I see her I will start a 1 week pre op diet then schedule surgery. I'm sooooo excited about this journey but this next month will be the longest ever!!!!!!! I have found this talk site to be very full of info and I love reading everyone's stories. I can't wait to get the surgery date when I do I'm sure everyone will here me screaming lol. I do have a question what has everyone done to really prepare for this meaning food etc?? Any info would help.

I hate waiting too! My surgery isn't until October. What I have done so far is order a ton of Protein Shake samples in all flavors just to see what I like. So far I like the Unjury and the nectar.< /p>

Welcome, while you are waiting for the nutritionist you may want to consider an early start on your pre-surgery diet. There are many postings on this blog and on the Internet that give the details. I started my pre-surg diet two weeks before my surgery (only needed 1-wk) and have lost 16 lbs. Diet as follows;

1. Drink 4 servings of Protein supplement each day Mix (2) servings with 8 oz. skim milk

2. Include at least 6-8 servings each, daily from the following food list;

a.
1 cup
V8 vegetable juice (8 fl. Oz.)

b.
½ cup
oatmeal, cream of wheat or farina (not presweetened)

c.
3 ounces
of grilled, steamed, or roasted chicken, fish, eggs (only 2 choices daily)

d.
6 ounces
of sugar free, fat-free, low-fat yogurt – Greek Yogurt (plain, vanilla, lemon) Dannon Light & Fit, must be smooth – no pieces / chunks

e.
½ cup
unsweetened applesauce

f.
1 cup
fat-free raw vegetables (lettuce, carrots, Tomato, green peppers)

g.
½ cup
sugar free Jell-O

3. Drink at last 64 ounces of Water or sugar-free, caffeine free non-carbonated beverages each day (Crystal Light)

4. Diet does not meet daily requirements – take multi-Vitamin and 1500 mg Calcium sub.

Good luck! I was sleeved on July 22, 2013! I have lost 36 lbs. I am so proud I had this surgery! No problems and was ready to go home the day I had the sleeve. I sometimes forget I even had it done! Absolutely no foods have gave me problems at all! I drink the ISO-100 Gourmet vanilla Protein and it taste like cream pie! I tried several other ones but could not tolerate them! This is awesome! I'll tell you right up front get the gummy vitamins for your multi (vitafusion complete for adults, 2 daily) and also I take the Gummy for Fiber (fiber choice fruity bites)! I get at Wal-Mart! I tried liquid (horrible), I tried chewable (horrible) so that's when I started the gummys and all my blood test shows my levels are good! Just a few pointers!

I waited 4 long years to have this surgery....I was on a waiting list...55 here they will no longer do the sleeve...I got called just 6 months before my 55 birthday....So I think waiting a month or even two can't be all that bad.....

It will go fast....keep researching and start changing some of your eating habits...K

Thanks for all the pointers. I don't really think a month is to long, it's just I'm excited and ready. I have a lot to do to prepare for this. I'm so ready to start my new life and have been for awhile and just now thought this is it I'm gonna do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
