Zumba after surgery?!

Recommended Posts

I am a Zumba fanatic going to classes five days a week at my local gym. My Zumba instructor prides herself on being about as hard core as they come there is no mercy in her class. My question is how long after surgery can I return to such vigorous physical activity without risking any issues?? Thanks in advance for any responses :-)

I was told it would be 6 weeks before we were allowed rigorous exercise. But I'm 4 weeks out of an uneventful, easy surgery and I don't think I would be up to going for a gym class in an additional 2-3 weeks.

So I guess when you are allowed to go (6-8 weeks) may be quite different from when you can actually go and not pass out in class :P

You know, that\s a bit of my frustration right now, the energy level. Just going to get a couple of things from the supermarket is taxing. I use to have so much energy before this. But I won't complain, this surgery may have given me years more added to my life. Getting my energy level back is a small thing. But don't over do it, your healing inside, not out. There is a big difference.

I am very interested in trying Zumba! I think it would be fun! I am a month out and although my doctor said it would be okay for me to exercise, I am going to wait another week or so. I plan to join Orange Theory in October. I may buy Zumba for my Xbox Kinect and see how I do at home so I can go at my own pace.

I went to my first Zumba class ever 3 weeks post-op. Probably a little too soon : ) but you can kinda go at your own pace/go lower impact if you need.

@ mandapanda I LOVE Zumba it's not like working out its like dancing and it's a great time...I personally don't like the games but everyone is different I defiantly recommend the classes though...3 weeks seems soon I may wait a little bit but good for you getting back out there so early you are stronger than ill probably be haha... Good luck to everyone!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
