Irreversible damage?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved just about five weeks ago and thought I was rocking the Protein requirement of 75g/d... Until I really started tracking it. I think I've only been getting between 50-60 per day at the most.

What implications does this have? Have I caused irreversible damage? What, aside from getting more Protein, can I do to prevent combined issues?

Basically, have I completely screwed myself up?

I'm feeling pretty disappointed in myself right now. Thanks for replies and info.

(PS: I'm waiting to hear back from my nut...thought I'd reach out to you all in the meantime.)

Irreversible damage? I would doubt it. You probably have lost more muscle than you would have if you had gotten more Protein. When we don't eat carbs to make sugar in the blood then we have to break down Protein and fat for fuel. The only problem is that the brain can't use fat as a fuel so you will use what protein you eat for fuel for the brain. If you 're not eating enough protein during the time when you're certainly not eating many carbs then you were breaking down muscle to fill the brains needs for fuel.

Talk with your NUT about it but if you're not having some other symptoms and have corrected the amount of protein you take in per day I'd think you'll be fine in the long run. Lesson learned right? Hang in there!

I doubt you have done damage. Many people have a hard time getting up to the recommended amount of Protein. I do believe in the value of tracking and now that you have seen where your deficets are, use the tool of tracking to help your tool of the sleeve

I'm excited if I get 50g of Protein in a day! I can't stand shakes anymore and I am a vegetarian. Irreversible damage? Not likely. ;)

I had something similar happen, no damage. Just adjust your protein upwards and carry on.

I doubt any damage was caused, 50-60 grams of Protein that early seems good the only thing I focused on other than protein was to get at minimum 700 calories after 6 weeks post op because that's the minimum your brain needs to function. If you are worried about muscle lost ask your dr is you're clear to start exercising. I was cleared at 2 weeks and started going to the gym by week 4.

It's perfectly fine. Guideline is: 500 cal/day- get 50 grams of protein. 600 cal/day- get 60 grams of protein. 700 cal/day- 70 grams of protein- and so on....

You're good. No worries.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
