When did you after surgery?

I was told it is a very important step. I got sleeved on the 14th and i haven't yet, i'm getting very impatient. (I can burp though and the gas pain in my shoulders isn't as bad as it was before.)

I want to fart and make sure i'm okay!

I had my sleeve done on the 7th and it took AT LEAST 4 days for me to pass gas, and it was very little because liquids don't usually cause that kind of gas for me. However, since I'm on blenderized/strained foods now, I am constantly farting, but there is no scent... weird, but glad! LOL

It's important because they pump your abdomin full of air during surgery and the air comes out when it is absorbed into your system. Burping is good enough, I say, this means it is making it's way out, just not out the way you would expect!

Happy farting!

Consensus here seems to be that extended walking works the methane out. How and why I do not know, but I do know that it is better to fart and bare the shame than not to fart and bare the pain.

Don't worry, it will happen! Days 3-5 were when I had the most gas and gas pain.

Not until day 4, really. Today is day 7 and marks the most gas I've had. I only burped once, on the first day.

I also had my surgery on the 14th and I just started passing today. it was really easy once I grabbed a pillow and held it against my stomach when I tried to push. Best of luck (:

I have a question maybe someone can answer, is there certain types of food that gives you bad gas. I am a few years post op and I have to take gas x to keep from having gas.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
