An NSV that brought tears to my eyes

Recommended Posts

Last weekend we attended a party for a cousin's child. (See photos in A Chance to Compare.) Last night I got an e-mail from my uncle, who has long been a beloved figure in our lives but whom we only get to see twice a year or so. Since my dad died in 1994 this uncle has served in loco parentis when needed.

He said, essentially, that he was sorry he hadn't had a chance to compliment me on how I looked at the party. He said: "I gather you've reached your objective."

I was stunned, but realize that he hasn't seen me at this weight, well, ever. So that was pretty cool right there. :) But I wrote back and told him that while I have reached AN objective I'm not done losing weight and hope to lose another 60 or so.

He said: "I'm very proud of you."

Sniff. :D

Awww.... that's wonderful Alex! I'm so glad your uncle took the time to put his positive thoughts into spoken words! We all need to hear kudos... the affirmations from the people around us can make success so much more real! (((hugs)))

Alex, that's wonderful, and truly deserved. Taking the time to tell you that shows why he's so beloved.

Alex, your uncle sounds like a sweetie. I'm glad that he took the time to let you know you were looking good. Sometimes people notice that we've lost weight, but never say it. I'm glad you got encouragement from someone you look up to, you deserve it and more.

Alexandra, It is so nice to have your families support and especially a father figure. I miss my parents very much, but more so my sister Alex, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36 (I was 28). I believe she would have been proud of my decision to be banded as well as my progress.

Your pics of you and your family are awesome!! I'm proud of you too.

This board is my extended family.

Alex, that was the sweetest story. Your uncle sounds like a dear. I love my uncle too and he was one of the first people I confided in about the band. He married my husband and I five years ago too. Always has had a special place in my heart. Your uncle sounds the same to you. So proud of you and keep up the good work. We love ya, Teresa;)

Oh Alex, that is great!

Thank you for sharing ... it feels so good to read, to know, that it is happening for you ( and many others in here I am sure). I have been convinced for over a decade, that there is no way of getting there permanently, and now this HUGE door opened into a place where it CAN. Like a different reality!

cheers

That's EXACTLY how I feel, Tellie. It's literally changed my conception of my future, in a wonderful way. I LOVE MY BAND!!!

Okay the tears are flowing!!!! That's awesome. You know I have lost 50 pounds and NO ONE had complimented me like that. My co-workers have but not family....kinda strange. I wonder do they notice??!!??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
