I took one this am, 5 days out, just dripped Water slowly on the steri strips and patted them dry.

I'll tell ya what, it was within my docs restrictions, but even if it wasn't, the amount of... Humanity it made me feel would have been worth it. Though I'm a scardey cat and wouldn't go ama.

Again, your sug, doc, nut, nurse, Lpn, Lrn, cna, may vary, but it was freaking wonderful!

If you have healed up well I say jump in. No, step in carefully. Say hi to rubber ducky.

I was told not to be submerged in bath, pool, etc for 4 weeks.

I was cleared at my 2 week appointment. The glue and scabs were mostly off and I was left with pink little scars. He said the outside was sealed up tight so I was good for a bath or a pool.

Sitting in Water that you can splash over yourself is one thing, but soaking with incisions fully submerged is quite another. Be very careful with this. Your skin is your number one defense against bacteria entering your body. Call your doc's office to make sure you have healed enough to soak in a tub. Once an incision starts oozing green, it's not a fun ride, and can be especially dangerous for an abdominal surgery.

I was cleared for a bath at my 2 week post op appt. I was told no bath or swimming for 2 weeks. I am a bath person and I was so ready to take bath! I did not want to get out of the bathtub the first time after surgery!

I'm trying to learn everything I can. So, how soon can you take a shower after surgery?

I took a shower the day after I left the hospital since I got home so late. They want us to keep the incisions clean, so taking a shower is good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
