Protein powder struggle

Recommended Posts

Hello my fellow post sleevers, can your Protein beat mine? i am trying to figure out the best Protein Drink out there. My nutritionist told me to always get the protein drink with the most protein content and the least fat and sugar content. I am using the whey protein by body fortress with 30g of protein per scoop and 2.5g fat, 2g sugar, 170calories. I tried the Premier Protein drink and it was nasty. I was wondering if anyone else can beat this whey protein considering the contents. I'm looking for the most grams of protein. Thanks

This is what I use also, it'll be interesting what others say. I think it tastes great and its decently priced. I also live in a small town and don't have lots of stores of with options. I'm pre-op

As I understand it, the best type of Protein for us is whey isolate protein. A lot of the cheaper protein powders are whey concentrate or whey blend, which is not as good quality and not absorbed as well by our bodies. I don't know about Body Fortress, but it will say what it is in the ingredient list. I was using Six Star from Wal-Mart, but it was a blend. Now I use Syntrax Nectar in the vanilla Bean Torte, chocolate Truffle, & I also have some unflavored to mix into foods to boost the protein. It has 100 cals per scoop, 0 carbs, 0 fat, and 24g of whey isolate protein.

I did compare the nutritional facts on this to bariatric infusion. Which is what my surgeon recommended and it was about the exact same so I think it's safe?!

More important than the Protein count per scoop is finding something you actually enjoy drinking and will be able to drink on a daily basis for a long time! It does you no good to worry about the bang for your buck, so to speak, if you have to force yourself to consume your drink.

I switched up my "favorite" Protein about six times over the last three years.

As a matter of course, I typically avoid no-fat, artificial sweetener products, but the only protein that has made it from day one to now is the Syntrax nectar line. I still drink about one a day and I'm still not sick of them. The huge variety of flavors is great, too, so if I do hit a point where I get bored I have plenty of different options to switch it up. It's possible to get a sample pack of them from BJs Bariatrics if you want to try them but don't want to invest in big tubs.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
