Haven't had a drink, but according to both my NUT and surgeon, you will feel it quicker.

I'm still pre-op, so I can't speak from experience yet, but many people said it's best to try your first post-op drink at home if you can. That way if it has a weird effect on you (like it makes you sick) you'll be at home and not in front of a party full of people. :-)

Personally, I wouldn't. Cocktails are empty calories to begin with but also the alcohol is going to hit you very hard. I'm not sure what the recommendation is for wait time for alcohol but that doesn't seem long enough.

If you end up trying something, I would try a half a glass of Chardonnay.

My doctor tells his patients to not consume alcohol for 1 year post surgery. It is really common to replace the food addiction with an alcohol addiction and you want to give yourself the best outcome possible. It is possible to go to a party, have a great time and not drink any alcohol.

I am 8 months out and have a drink when I feel like it. Usually only one. Yes it's empty calories but you know that. You cannot stop living. Enjoy the one and move on.

thinking of having a cocktail for the first time

colcol

its true that after you lose an amount of weight, as you get thinner - a drink might hit you like a ton of bricks :o

all docs/NUTS have different rules :o

one doc might tell you 6 weeks, another 6 months, another one year po

great to hear responses from other people on the board

for example - i think 7 weeks post op is too early to have a drink post surgery

you could go around the party with a tall glass of Water witlh lemon (i know its not the same  )

but...............

you should always check with your doc/nut for any "official" answer to certain questions :)

have fun ;)

good luck

kathy

When I drink alcohol I have vodka, a little cranberry juice (I use Ocean Spray Diet), Water and Mango Passionfruit Crystal Light. Tastes awesome and not much sugar or carbs.

I was cleared for booze at a month post op. I drink wine as my drink of choice. When out, vodka and cranberry. It effects me same as it did before. Have a drink and enjoy!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
