How long did it take people to really start getting their Protein in?

How long til you could drink say an 11 oz Premier Protein drink.

I think I drank mine either too fast or too much because I feel kinda nauseous...

I am a week out and have barely had any calories or protein... So I am trying to up it but I think I over did it???

I need some guidance please!

Hi Cindy! I'm almost a week out and I was able to get 6 oz in this morning. I'm on full liquids so I can make Protein Shakes. There are tons of powders out there to make your own shake with. That way you can adjust the amount of liquid you add and still get all the Protein. And when everybody says "Sip sip sip" they really mean it...like all day long! My MD says 64 oz per day. That will take me all day to get it down. I also had to learn what a "sip" is. About 1-2 mL's. Teeny amount barely enough to wet your tongue! I get nauseated if I drink too much and it hurts if my sips are too big. Good luck girl...we're on our way!

I had surgery July 10, 2013 and initially thought I was killing my Protein and Water intake. I was certain that I was getting my 75grams and 64ounces per day... until I started tracking it in a small notebook. I was drastically under in both. I am almost four weeks out and am eating most foods fine. The days that I have meat with my meals, it's easier to get my Protein levels. However, if there are days that I stick to more liquid foods because my stomach feels a little off and those are the protein-challenged days. I feel like eating enough food to meet the protein need, compounded with the Water requirement would make me explode. I use Optimum Nurtition protein powder; it's got 24g per 4 ounce serving, and if you make it with milk you gain a little more protein. The Protein Shake, four ounces, usually takes me about twenty-thirty minutes to finish... I'll just sip on it.

Basically, the shorter answer: I'm not sure that I'm really getting my protein in at almost 4 weeks post-op... but I'm getting closer on a more consistent basis.

Good luck!

By day 3 I was able to get in a 10.75oz Ensure Protein Drink. It took me about an hour, but I did it. I was constantly sipping on something the first couple of weeks.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
