Agree check with Dr or NUT. I had to go from caf to Decaf during the 2 week prior but was allowed to continue decaf coffee and decaf tea right after surgery. I pretend it's caffeine :)

Depending on your dr/nut instruction.. But I never stopped drinking caffeinated coffee (black w/sf Torani flavoring)

Every Doc & NUT will tell you differently. I went thru one program that said no caffeine ever again & the program I ended up going with (& not for this reason but I'm happy about it anyway), says I can go back to caffeine after 6 weeks (I think) but that Decaf is fine for now. I'm actually liking decaf okay but I know I'll eventually want a little cup of my favorite drink each morning again! Not too soon tho, I can wait.

My Dr wanted us to have no caffeine after the sleeve. I was always a decafe girl though. However, now that I'm sleeved I don't desire coffee at all. I go with the ask your Dr response.

I also never stopped drinking caffeinated coffee. I enjoy Decaf though cause its the taste not the caffeine for me. I drink a lot more tea than coffee though and it has caffeine in it too sometimes.

I was able to have Decaf coffee the day after my surgery while i was still in the hospital. I can tolerate it as well as I could before surgery. I guess it depends on what your body can handle and if your dr. says it's ok.

My doc said I could have regular coffee so I did. And it was awful. I was so sick all day. Can't even stand the smell of coffee and I was a coffeeocholic before. Weird.

Thanks everyone I will ask. It was a question I thought I should ask. I don't mind Decaf though I actually like it even my decaf tea.

What is the reason we can't have caffine? Just curious.

Its an irritant to the stomach and dehydrating. Some have no problem and some do like me. Miss my coffee.< /p>

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
