Am I expecting too much?

Recommended Posts

I really want to lose 55 lbs more by my wedding on July 7 this year.

Is that realistic? Am I aiming too high? :)

I am contemplating joining a gym (I'm going to go look at one that is nearby this afternoon) and I plan on going at least 3 times a week and doing 45 minutes to an hour of cardio and some weights (I will get a program written for me by the gym). The other days I will walk with my partner (we have a nice routine of going for a 30-45 minute walk each night now and I don't want to discard that altogether cos I enjoy that time we have togehter).

I'm also eating lean healthy food, fresh veggies and good carbs as advised by my nutritionist.

I feel like I am doing all the right things......

Do you think its doable? Has any one else acheived this rate of loss (55 lbs in 6 months)? If so, what do you think it was that got you there?

It can be done. It sounds like you are doing all the right things to help acheive that goal. Now the closer you get, the harder it gets I am told---and finding out for myself!!!

But you can get close if not....and the difference in how you feel, will make it all worthwhile. I mean I understand you want to lose 55 pounds, but if you lost 45 pounds, you would only be 10 pounds away---and just imagine how wonderful you would feel!!!

My best advice is to look around here, find an exercise challenge, or diet challenge group---and hook up! You might find the same in the November bandsters group---just a group of people you can share the ups and downs with, and rely on for support. I am not sure what I would do without my special groups....they keep my spirits up, and my weight going down!!!

Good Luck to you---congratulations on the upcoming wedding!!!

Kat

Not trying to shoot your hopes down or anything, but don't forget about having to get your dress altered. Most alteration places usually require you to have it done fairly far in advance of the occasion. To be honest, I wouldn't even try to set a goal. The time around your wedding is going to be stressful enough that you don't need weight loss hanging over your head in addition to everything else that will be going on. Besides, I have always found weight loss to be easier when you aren't worried about it. The more you stress, the more likely it is that your body will freak out on you.

I'm certain you can do it -- you just need a plan. Approach it mathematically. Set a caloric goal, an exercise goal and a monthly weight loss goal. Aim to be at your final goal 2 weeks before the wedding. I really think you can do it. I'm with Kat too -- find a support group. Maybe even look to see if there's a Yahoo group for brides looking to lose weight before the wedding. I bet there is....

I lost 55 lbs in... oh it was probably about 2 months. BUT, I had 200 lbs to lose, and I've only lost a handful in the last few months.

Your body will have more to say about how much you lose than anything you eat, drink, or do physically. You can approach it mathematically, but sometimes the math encounters anamolies. :(

Previously unidentified variables, maybe....

If you stick to the exercise plan and stay accountable. Yes you will.

I agree with Jack. I think you will be happy just striving to reach that goal.

My wedding is June 3rd, and I would love to lose 45 lbs by then. However, I refuse to set myself a goal like that, because if I set it, and I don't make it, I will just beat myself up. I plateau too much to be able to count on it. Chances are, I'll lose 20 lbs before then and then drop a bunch right after that I would have loved to have lost to be in my dress, lol.

Fortunately, my mom is making my dress, so she can fit it however it needs to be fitted.

There have been plenty of people here who've lost what they wanted to lose when they wanted to lose it. I just know that I've never been one of those people. :(

Just do the best that you can and if you don't make it - don't let it ruin a beautiful day.

The lace-up back on the dress is a great idea.

I know that if you work at it - you will do great!

Hugs!!

Thanks guys for all the encouragement and advice! Jack and Teresita hit the nail on the head, its the striving for the goal that matters I think. Heck even if I only lose another 10 lbs, thats 10lbs less, you know?

My fiance proposed to me when I was at my highest and loved as much that day as he does now, to him I think I will be a beautiful bride no matter what size I am. He's just the best future husband ever!

I think that deserves a thread in itself! My finace did the same. at 305. he's been wonderful too.

I did set a goal...however, it's almost immaterial to me because I just want to be "less". As in less than I am now. I've tried so hard not to push myself to unrealistic goals and not to beat myself up for cheats, etc. Some might say I'm taking it the lazy way...but I feel better about myself than I ever have. And I know on May 25 2007 (my day :)) I will be happier because I'm healthier and starting a wonderful life with my guy.

but...I also have the corset back...ha :)

You might even find out you LIKE exercising! I started going 3 days a week and now I am going a minimum of 5, sometimes even 7 days a week (yes Saturday and Sunday too!) and I have been walking on my lunch hour instead of eating. Once I kicked up the work out a "notch" the pounds started coming off way easier. I am lovin' th egym- it is MY time. I sleep better at night and am feeling so much healthier too!

Congrats on the wedding date(s). I have been married 10 years, and I tell ya what...after this recent weight loss things are get real exciting! (LOL)!!

Jill

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
