I found out today I am approved for surgery! WOOO!

What should I expect next? How long did it take for your surgeon to schedule surgery/give you a date?

Typically, people have an endoscopy and blood work and do a 2 week pre-op diet. What else did you do?

How far out did your surgeon book you?

Thanks for any insight!

Did your surgeon's office call you right back? Mine lets the phone go to voicemail and then calls back at her own convenience. I don't feel much like a customer...Anyway, here's hoping I hear soon!

Maybe we could go through the process together and keep each other updated on what we are doing next?

I went to my original doctors visit the 16th and then the doctors office called me on the 22nd to let me know when I meet with the surgeon. I am a military spouse and using tricare insurance. I'm guessing it went so fast because they are all in the same hospital.

Greeknugget. I had all testing done prior to approval. Once approved, I was scheduled right away. I am on my last week of pre op liquid diet. Surgery is next week, the 31st. Good luck, and I wish you and MGLAW 142, the best.

Thank you. I hope mine goes that fast. I've been working with my regular doctor for a year and have lost 46 pounds and have had all my blood work done so maybe mine will move along as yours did.

Well I had to go to group consultation and after that I met with group exercise and psyche people. I met my surgeon in June and I have appointment medical clearance next week

This is all very helpful! Yes, MGLaW142, let's keep in touch! Great work on losing 46 pounds already!

It sounds like there are many different requirements depending on the doctor! And always a waiting game. Ha.

Congrats on your progress Brad360 west! The date is almost here!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
