Problem with my port

Recommended Posts

I was banded in late September 06. When I went in for my first fill in November my port had not only flipped but the stitches had "popped" and my port was just under my ribs. I had outpatient surgery that day to have it repaired. I went back in for a fill in December and the port had partially flipped again but I was still able to get a fill. Now on New Years eve I am able to feel the port floating under my ribs again. Has anyone else had a problem with their port coming undone more than once and is it safe to have it floating loose in your body? I don't want this to be an ongoing problem because it will end up costing me a bundle in the long run as I am self-pay.

:help: :help:

I don't think it's dangerous to have your port floating. In some countries, they intentionally leave the port floating. As I understand it, these docs always use fluoro to fill you, in order to hit the port while floating.

What is dangerous is having a port that can't be accessed (for example, if you are suddenly too tight and need an unfill), so definitely discuss with your doctor how he/she would access the port in it's current condition. I'd be interested to hear why they think yours keeps coming undone too. I'm sure you're not the first to have it come undone twice, but geeze!

Good luck!

Doesn't sound that good to me. I wouldn't want something floating around my body. If you had it repaired once, I would keep a close eye on it. Perhaps your surgeon isn't doing a great job. I'm sorry you're having problems.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
