I am not sure if that would be considered dumping. There is something else that we get when we eat something with fat and sugar. I can't think of what it's called, but basically, too much sugar too fast because things move out of our stomachs quickly due to the size.

Is it...Rapid gastric emptying?

I had a very small brownie and a big chocolate chip cookie yesterday over a 3 hour period. Today I suffered from cramping in my lower stomach....that's what I figure caused it. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

Hope you are feeling better. It's all a learning process.

Amanda Rae- I hope you're feeling better!? I just came back from my support group & not one person has had dumping!? I found that a little odd...I think it's way more common.

Glad to hear you're better. Hathery posted a story of her dumping episode a few weeks ago (?) that sounds similar to yours. I think it's more common for bypass patients but it happens to some of us as well.

My whole digestive zone started cramping. I broke in both goosebumps and sweat simultaneously.

There was a powerful and unstoppable evacuation of yuck which had me in the fetal position while sitting on the toilet.

It lasted 15 minutes.

Sounds like it to me! I've had it happen to me twice...because, ya know, I can never learn the first time. ;)

Here's what mayo says about it: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dumping-syndrome/DS00715/DSECTION=symptoms

Symptoms of dumping syndrome are most common during a meal or within 15 to 30 minutes following a meal. They include:

Gastrointestinal

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Feeling of fullness

Cardiovascular

  • Flushing
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness
  • Heart palpitations, rapid heart rate

Signs and symptoms also can develop later, usually one to three hours after eating. This is due to the dumping of large amount of sugars into the small intestine (hyperglycemia). In response, the body releases large amounts of insulin to absorb the sugars, leading to low levels of sugar in the body (hypoglycemia). Symptoms of late dumping can include:

  • Sweating
  • Hunger
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness
  • Confusion
  • Heart palpitations, rapid heart rate
  • Fainting

A study of more than 1,100 people who had their stomachs surgically removed found that about two-thirds experienced early symptoms and about a third experienced late symptoms of dumping syndrome. Some people experience both early and late signs and symptoms.

No matter when problems develop, however, they may be worse following a high-sugar meal, especially one that's rich in table sugar (sucrose) or fruit sugar (fructose).

The easiest way to get rid of it is to eat some Protein quickly. It usually evens me back out pretty quickly.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
