I'm going to be sleeved in about 12 hours (give or take a few minutes) & am a little nervous. Just thinking if there could be complications? Or if I fail at this? I'm also afraid of Water hurting me because I love water. I also hate taking my wedding rings off to leave them behind (because hospital says "no jewelry allowed" ~ for my own protection of course). They've been on my finger for more than 19 years now. I hate the thought of sleeping in a strange bed. I hate the thought of my husband not being by my side when I have to stay in the hospital until I get released...or my youngest son crawling in my bed in the morning waking me up with a kiss & letting me know he wants to snuggle a bit.

As I was packing my bag for the hospital, my youngest came in & kissed a stuffed penguin he gave me last year & then put it in my bag. He told me to take the penguin out & feel his kiss on my face each time I look at it. I miss him already & he's just upstairs sleeping in his bed! He is my autistic son, but he has more love in his heart than my non special needs son!

I don't know why I'm nervous...I'm thinking that this procedure & new way of life will give me more time with my children on earth. Good enough reason, right? I'm still nervous.

Thanks for listening.

Start focusing on all the positive things will change and happen because of this tool. Because that's exactly what this surgery is for you a tool to help change your life and nothing more it will only fail if you let it. I'm a big Water drinker too but don't worry, you still have to in take a lot just a lot slower! Listen to me I sound like I've already had the sleeve done I'm patiently waiting for my surgery date, I have done so much research questioning you name it to make sure this is exactly what I want and I know that it is, let's put it this way you haven't come this far for nothing. Good luck dear I'm sure everything will be perfectly fine they do these all the time now, and my friends that I've haven't done said recovery is a lot faster than they thought. Happy thoughtsfor :)

The Water is a bit tough at first, but I'm two weeks out and it's a lot easier now! I can get about 20 oz in over the course of an hour without any pain at this point, as long as I take it slowish - no gulping, but I can take a normal swallow as long as I don't try to take three of them in a row without stopping between :P I did find Water a little easier initially if it was room temperature and had a little flavor in it. That seemed to break up the surface tension of the water a little and make it go down more gently. I used bit of something like True Lemon or True Lime (crystallized lemon and lime juices) or a squirt of Mio, or a splash of some apple or cranberry juice all worked.

At this point, I can drink plain water with a bit of a chill on it, or some unsweetened iced tea.

As far as the nerves, it happens to most of us, even the most positive that this is the right thing to do. I imagine it's even worse when you have kids! Hang in there, and as Dj said, remember why you are doing this. Get the surgery, and give it a few months and you'll be well on your way to being the even more spectacular mom you want to be for your kids. Meanwhile, we'll be here for you, as everyone has been here for us!

Good luck in the morning, m'dear. It will go fine, and in a few days you'll be rockin' your sleeve with the best of us!

Wonderful sentiments from both you lovely ladies. Thank you. Can't tell you what your support means to me. I'm going to sleep now & maybe dream about all the activities I'll be able to do once I drop some of this weight that holds me back from living life!

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I did get the band a year and a half ago. I was scared to stay in the hospital too in a strange bed and not having my normal things. I actually ended up liking it. I had my happy medicine (haha) and I was well taken care of. It was easy to sleep because of the pain medicine. They should be able to give you something for sleep if you can't. You might want to take your own pillow in a pillowcase other than white (so it doesn't get tossed in with the hospital laundry) to help you. Good luck!

You got it! Being scared is normal, it's major surgery. You have the added luck of the kissed penguin with you. How could you go wrong. Best of luck!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
