Less than 24 hours to go...and THANK YOU!

Recommended Posts

My VS surgery is in less than 24 hours and this has been an emotional week! I feel very excited and a bit nervous. The impending surgery has forced me to face the reality that my relationship with food is ending, and for ten years all I have wanted is that. Now that I am getting it, it shook me up a bit! But all in all I am grateful for the experiences I have had these last ten days. But mostly, I am so amazed at the hearts of the people that are commenting on this site. You have no idea how much you have helped me prepare. I have been laughing and at times crying and learning from all of you. Wow - I'm so impressed. The wishes of good luck and the advice you all give to each other do my heart good. I survived this week being uplifted by the people here. Thanks everyone!! Cant wait to be on the other side of surgery.

I WAS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THAT food RELATIONSHIP BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT I DON'T MISS IT AS MUCH AS I THOUGHT I WOULD. I STILL LIKE FOOD, I HAVE THINGS I LIKE, BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE TO HAVE SO MUCH OF IT AND THAT MAKES ME FEEL REALLY GOOD. FOOD HAS BEEN MY DRUG OF CHOICE FOR A LONG TIME BUT I AM OK HAVING A NEW RELATIONSHIP WITH IT. GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
