Hey everybody,

My grandmother was going to come and stay with us for a couple days after I had my surgery in case I needed any help. Unfortunately she won't be able to come now. I'm wondering, realistically, do you really need much help? My husband will likely have to go back to work right after I get home from the hospital. He works about 10 hours a day so he will be home for any heavy lifting and such. We live right on a bike path so I won't have to travel to get my daily exercise in. I don't know if I should find someone else or just let it be. Any thoughts?

If you don't have any kids, you'll probably be just fine. My husband worked from home the day I came home from the surgery, but honestly I didn't need any help - I was up and down the stairs in our home with no problem, and when I was tired I curled up in the bed or on the couch and snoozed as needed. That first day home I was still on Clear Liquids, so it's not like preparing my meal was any issue, but I'm sure I could have managed.

My husband stayed home with me the fist day home since my surgeon wanted someone with me the first 24 hrs. Like the previous poster, I could probably have physically managed on my own, but I was a bit wimpy and really appreciated his presence!

What I really appreciated was at bath/shower time, when I had my girls on hand to help me out etc, in to the second week I was fine with bathing alone. Just take things slowly, and rest as you need to.

Thank you everyone for responding. You all confirmed what I had expected, I should be fine. My son might be home but he's 14 and should be a big help if I need anything. Thank you again everyone for being such a great resource!

I'm a wimp, and the dosage on my pain meds were too low, so I would have had a hard time by myself for the first 3 days or so out of the hospital.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
