Going to get sleeved on the 24th important question regarding shakes

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. new to the forum. I am about to embark on my pre-op diet tomorrow. I am allowed 1 shake for Breakfast and 1 for lunch then a 3-4oz piece of Protein with specific veggies on the side for dinner.< /p>

then 2 days before i go Clear Liquids only.

I am kind of in a unique situation in that I have a extreme allergy to anything with dairy in it. I plan on using this soy chocolate protein powder that I got at GNC instead of a whey based shake. I have had them before and taste good with just Water added.

I came across this vegan protein powder and I was wondering if this would be better. I was told by someone that too much soy can produce estrogen and lead to man boobs.

I am just wondering if anyone who uses/used soy protein or san rawfusion could chime in.

Also I have plenty of organic chicken broth to hold me over for the clear liquid phase pre and post op, but I also have this organic vegtable broth which is about just as clear as the chicken broth. do you think It would be ok to use that as well?

I'm not sure why, exactly, (meaning, if it's due to an allergy or just 'cause) but in the past O.T.R. Sleever has given some really great advice/suggestions on non-dairy shakes or mixes.

You might be able to search out his posts and find info that way if nobody else can chime in. You may also find additional help on the food/nutrition board - there are specific threads there dedicated to Protein sources and you may find something of use there.

Sorry I can't help more but my experience doesn't compare. I do think that the dangers of soy are when it's the sole source of protein for an extended period of time, so I'm not sure if that will have a negative effect on you or not.

Good luck, and I hope you can either find something here to help you out or that someone with similar experience will chime in.

Thank you for your comments. I was able to speak to someone at my doctors office and they told me i could use soy milk unsweetened or Water with my soy protein. I still think I have to do some research into the long term effects of being on soy protein. I wonder if giving the vegtable vegan Protein Powder a try might be good. Anyways all that matters is that I get the protein in right ? :)

Correct! I'm lactose intolerant (no serious allergy in my case) and use hemp milk on occasion to mix, too.

Whatever works and will help you get in the Protein you need without tasting terrible is a good idea. :)

I have been usiing almond milk. Less calories and carbs , tastes good. Also, my NUT told me that pea protein would be a good second choice if whey was a problem. Yoi can google pea protein shakes..lots out there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
